i wanna see you bitches grow old. i'm serious about this
iododds.bsky.social
aye! It is making me realise how deeply my curiosity is connected with wanting to share and pass on its fruits, which is not something I was previously conscious of 🤯
iododds.bsky.social
the more I ponder it, the more this feels like ultimately a question about your comfort with profound personal change

do I think I’d end up becoming someone or something that can weather these worst case scenarios? probably

am I okay with becoming SO different from what I am now? good question!
iododds.bsky.social
I find a lot of value in communication & memory & continuity, so I would really struggle with a scenario where humanity dies out, never spreads beyond Earth, no other sentience ever evolves or visits, and I’m just left here with no way to leave any historical record until I’m swallowed by the sun
iododds.bsky.social
tbh my concern is the unknowns. every worry I have /now/ can be mitigated, but over a nearly infinite timescale who knows how profoundly or for what reasons I might later wish I was dead? I’m wary of locking myself into the ride

that said, if I can still be killed by external forces then I’m all in

honestly deeply saddening, like imagine if coffee was something you associated with contacting the numinous and having weird fun instead of a dystopian productivity drug you resent for being so necessary under the transnational anglo-lutherian neo-stakhanovite regime

(episode 31, ‘Conquering the Night’, if anyone is interested! great podcast, strongly recommend)
iododds.bsky.social
listening to @empirepoduk.bsky.social explain how coffee was originally a drug of midnight mysticism rather than clockbound productivity and uh

this is the starkest evidence of the Alan Moore style “modernity is the brutal conquest of the dionysian by the appolonian” thesis I’ve ever heard

“We’re all being DOGE’d,” a CBS News journalist told The Independent. “And she’s also looking out to see who will kiss up to her.”

The source pointed out that Weiss has made it clear “she wants to bring her own people in,” all while “layoffs are coming.”

One of my favorite moments from Nobel Prize history:

The Nobel Committee couldn’t reach Stanford professor Paul Milgrom to let him know that he had been awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics, so his fellow winner, Robert Wilson, went over to his house in the middle of the night to wake him up!

Mmmh, sunk cost dynamics feel very powerful in politics atm!

Today I showed the designers that you can name cells in spreadsheets and use the names in formulas (i.e. "=PLAYER_LEVEL" instead of "=C12"). You can then use the Name Manager to track or rename them. I thought this was common knowledge, but I guess not, so sharing that tidbit here.

Okay, I want your theories. What IS it about Trump that makes so many people completely delude themselves about who he is and what he will do?

None of this was hidden! And sure, voters are often fooled, but the scale of wishcasting about Trump truly feels unique.

“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

suffice it to say I am VERY excited to see what Certified Monsterfucker Mr Guillermo del Toro does with this bizarrely neglected material
iododds.bsky.social
reader, imagine my teenage mind reeling as the Creature proceeds to GO OFF in perfect Georgian English about his experience of being born and reading fucking Paradise Lost

genuinely one of the all-time literary rug pulls, yet most modern pop culture adaptations utterly fail to capture its spirit

Volume 1 is as expected. Victor builds his creature, has a breakdown, ghosts everyone (relateable). then I get to Vol 2, where we actually meet the monster...

VICTOR: Begone, foul insect!!!

CREATURE: I expected this reception. All men hate the wretched; how then must I be hated,

ME: wait what
iododds.bsky.social
Reading Frankenstein ahead of the del Toro film and remembering just how profoundly it blew my mind as a kid when the Creature started talking

Bear in mind I was 18, first year at college, had zero knowledge of the book beyond famous movies + pop culture tropes. So I'm expecting, y'know, a MONSTER

I should add that as of right now, there is nothing in the CR about gender-affirming care. You can see the text here. But there WILL be a big fight when it comes to the actual appropriations process.

(honest question) what are the “good” video games? artistically i mean, not in a “i enjoyed this escapist slop” kind of way
gravitysra1nbow.bsky.social
Well. It's not Red Dead Redemption 2, but it's like one of three video games I'd genuinely consider good.

Got hold of some EXTREMELY dangerous restricted goods today.

These puppies were under lock and key at Safeway. The attendant wouldn’t even give me them directly. He took ‘em to the customer service counter and made me pay there.

Good thing too. You wouldn’t want these to fall into the wrong hands.
some bobby pins, some hair clips, and some elasticated hair ties

I definitely fucked up the perspective here lol
