my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI

Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

Octopus Facts

A four panel comic strip. In the 1st panel, an octopus is seen within the frame, with a textbox explaining "an octopus can fit through any hole larger than its beak." In the second panel, the text continues, "this means an octopus as large as 600 lbs can potentially fit through a hole the size of a quarter." In the third panel, the octopus is completely absent, the narrator says "oh no." Finally we see the octopus having fully broken out of the comic panels, scooting its way out of the comic, holding a cellphone and saying "hey- tell the boys Vinny The Thumbs is out of hoosegow. I know a couple of 'em won't be too thrilled but it's more fun if they have a head start."

So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

I'm not interested in more defenses of edge cases where genAI and LLMs can be useful. That's not the world we're living in right now. Right now we're living in a world where people are pretending these tools can effectively do a fuckton more than they can. And it's dangerous and scary.

A Berry's Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi) sitting on the sandy sea floor. Its arms are all together and going forwards. Its gins a flapping. On its head, around its mantle opening and especially on its arms, it is a mix of iridescent blue, cyan, green and yellow. It is covered in black chromatophores all over, and the rest of its flesh is translucent or off white. A Berry's Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi) buried in the sand. Just part of its head and mantle are sticking out of the sand, with its eyes peering out. Its pupils are a horizontal line, so it looks like it is sleepy and squinting. It has a little bit of sand on top of its head. It is mostly purple with lots of of purple chromatophores. Its eyes are silvery, and around its eyes is some iridescent cyan, blue and purple.
