Brilliant posting. We associate @phillipspobrien.bsky.social with Ukraine but this is seriously fast out of the starter blocks for a developing situation on the other side of the world. But it's not unconnected: the worrying theme is around trumps attitude to the world order + geopolitical norms
Good Morning and welcome to another episode of regime change by the USA. The US seems to be militarily trying to get rid of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro right now. There are reports of US ground forces in action. However, watch the Cubans too. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

TRUMP: Well I see that we're gonna be very strongly involved in it. That's all. What can I say. We have the greatest oil companies in the world.

This skirmish for the soul of the National Trust reflects how the charity found itself at the epicentre of the British culture war. Yet its Swindon AGM lacked the heat of America’s culture clashes. Maybe we could talk our way out of the culture wars after all"

Happy Wran's Day!

The Wren, or Lá An Dreoilín, is still strong in parts of Ireland (notably Kerry), with elements entwined with nature and the pagan roots of this time of year.

Happy #StStephensDay. I have a poem about my father being a wrenboy but reading it once, I was surprised that members of the audience congratulated me on my bravery in doing so. Finally, I learned they thought I'd said he'd been a rent boy.

But this this is also a place of significant cultural heritage; we know there has been 1,300 years of human activity on the islands and we believe the islands hold significant early Christian remains, but very little archaeological investigation has taken place, until now.
