Anyone who’s started a job (or tried to get paid as a freelancer by a corporate) in the last few years knows you get chased for ID, and diligently. For a Brit that’s passport or driver’s licence, and for people on visas, those proofs of work are *already digital*.

"being able to provide proof of ID over the internet" is massively more valuable now than it was 20 years ago, a clear need that you really don't want to have to punt to the private sector, and the entire pitch from the government is about migration
