Good to see the Conservative Party committed to keeping the deficit down by *checks notes* spending £2 billion giving tax breaks for private education, creating a massive new deportation force and pledging to maintain pensioner benefits.

Given Kemi Badenoch has supposedly renounced Trussonomics, there’s an awful lot of multi-billion pound tax giveaways, predicated on *extremely* optimistic cuts and savings.

Almost as if she knows she’s never going to have to try to actually deliver any of this.

All these people really want is to pay no taxes and be treated with floor scraping deference. Everything else is just bullshit in pursuit of that goal.

And we have even less protection here. Trump can't fire judges who have constitutional protection. A government here could pass a law allowing them to do so with a majority of one in the Commons.

If you can't see how this will end, then you're not paying attention (not least to what's going on on the other side of the Atlantic).

Henceforth the red robes will only be worn as an away kit when the Canadian Supreme Court is playing the US one.

Tragic news from Canada where the Canadian Supreme Court has gone from the official dress on the left to the one on the right
Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in bright red wooly gowns, with a beige trim. It looks sort of like a Santa robe The Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in black gowns with a bright white kravat, and two thin red vertical lines on the side of the robe

OMG this is the same dress Liz Truss wore on her first, and her last day as PM. It’s from The Fold.

A lot of my childhood was spent at my grandparents watching Keeping Up Appearances, Allo Allo, Dad’s Army, Hi-De-Hi, One Foot in the Grave and other sitcoms.

It’s heartbreaking to see all those people who made me laugh so much disappearing.

At a time when new cyberattacks debilitate British businesses seemingly daily, the UK government is demanding that security is made worse for UK users.

Hopefully the media doesn’t pretend that the Secretary of Defense is allowed to declaratively make war crimes legal.

On the one hand, Trump is explicitly threatening to use the military to occupy Blue America. On the other, he's so clearly in mental and physical decline that he can barely choke out his "look at me I'm a fascist dictator" routine without slurring words and stumbling all over them

Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

How is this not bigger news in tech/security circles.

Jaguar Land Lover lost $250M (£200M) and counting thanks to a cyberattack that it still couldn’t mitigate. This is growing every week.

The cost of underinvesting in security is very real. 1+ month recovery is bonkers

If there’s a convincing answer, none of the ministers doing broadcast yesterday knew it. Which given it’s supposed to be the whole raison d’etre of this ID scheme, is a pretty dire launch.

Anyone who’s started a job (or tried to get paid as a freelancer by a corporate) in the last few years knows you get chased for ID, and diligently. For a Brit that’s passport or driver’s licence, and for people on visas, those proofs of work are *already digital*.

So, to be clear, Reform UK want a state strong enough to carry out mass deportations but identity cards would be a step too far in terms of state power?

"being able to provide proof of ID over the internet" is massively more valuable now than it was 20 years ago, a clear need that you really don't want to have to punt to the private sector, and the entire pitch from the government is about migration
