The min wage for a 40 hr week is £25,397. The BBC is advertising a job for a journalist with "significant experience" on the Today programme for £27k.

Sure, this is benchmarked - but it just isn't good enough. What do we want from our national flagship news radio broadcast?

Journalism is dying.

It's getting quite terrifying that the placement year opportunities that I help advertise as part of my course are approaching the starting salary for the junior lecturers. My wife started her first vet job in 2005 on ~35k which is also the current median vet starting salary 21 years later.

I was a sensitive kid. I loved cats. I had OCD, undiagnosed.

When I was 9, a fraternity brother tortured a cat to death in my hometown. The details even now are beyond imagination. archive.is/xdmUL

I was traumatized for years from reading the news story.

The torturer? Now the head of the NRA.

Isn't this a telling aspiration? To want robots to look after your kids, so you can do stuff, rather than robots to do stuff, so you can spend time with your kids?

The darkness inside these shrivelled men must be like a gaping unfillable void.

Death toll in Afghanistan when NATO answered the US’s call:

- 158 Canadians
- 89 French
- 59 Germans

- 44 Danes

“Stayed a little back, off the front lines “!
No one in the media will call him out over this lie or any of the others he spouts.
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."

I'm pretty ambivalent on banning it for under-16s, I'm pretty aggressive on banning it for the over-50s.
Don't really have a dog in the ban-social-media-for-under-16s fight, but seems utterly irrational to demand it now. A country which is comparable to Britain has just done so. Surely, if you were remotely committed to evidence, you would take a year to see how it goes before proposing we copy them.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.
