Trying to be a serious person, but probably thinking about X-Men and Star Trek.
Sometimes I feel deeply gaslit by the entire food industry because every lunch product you can buy is like “here’s a bunch of food you like, and then we’ve covered it all in mayo, a thing everybody enjoys without exception”

The other day Anna and I conceived of a ChatGPT-licensed Magic 8-ball where it's exactly the same as a normal Magic 8-ball but just one of the messages says "Definitely kill yourself". Weirdly, the regulators would probably step in on that.
I may be a Luddite but Magic 8-Ball is more reliable. Should I get out of bed before noon? Signs point towards no.

Absolutely loved Radiohead last night. There’s something actively life-affirming about seeing Thom Yorke dancing his heart out on stage, the guy really goes for it. Felt more like a victory lap than the start of anything though. If that’s the last time they tour I’m okay with it.

Going to see Radiohead tonight! I hope they play "I'm A Creep"!

So proud today as my daughter carries on the family tradition, established by me in the 1990s, of waking up 5 minutes before you were due to leave for school. The days when she would burst into my room at 6:30am being like "Daddy get up, I have to leave for school in 2 hours!!" are a memory.

This is one of those behavioural tics I see in use ALL the time on TikTok/YouTube/etc for people trying very hard to make things look off the cuff and not too slick. But it’s also that there’s a visual grammar to certain types of video that people then copy without even being sure why.
why have reporters, politicians, influencers, etc. all of a sudden seem to have started holding lapel mics to talk into them? it’s a lapel mic, it’s specifically designed to go on your shirt or lapel, you look ridiculous holding it, stop it.

My work colleagues tried to guess my age today and were universally coming in six years lower than my actual age, which is either a total vindication of my lack of skincare routine, or a damning indictment of my organisational seniority.

I’m currently listening to Jill Lepore’s book WE THE PEOPLE and it’s crazy to me how many of the arguments being had in the early 1800s are, somehow, still happening today. This book is a lot denser than THESE TRUTHS but as a companion piece I’m enjoying it a lot.

Not trying to start a conspiracy theory but CloudFlare, Azure and AWS majorly shitting the bed within a single month is wild. It reminds me of the early 00s where I was like "how come all these helicopters keep crashing!?" before I realise it was euphemistic way of saying "shot down".

As a dork who buys comics online it's nuts to me how many people put stuff up at totally ludicrous prices. I need to set myself up as a vintage comics price consultant because I promise you some of them will never sell.

Folks, I really need some help. For the last 10-15 days, I've been pretty much out of action, which has put me two weeks behind on promoting my Film Stories 500 show in London next week.

I'd be grateful for any help/support in getting the word out.

Thank you.

I'm really impressed with PLURIBUS so far as it manages to dramatise how self-loathing is an obstacle to happiness, while more broadly interrogating the usefulness of individualism as the capitalist cultural project of the 20th/21st century. At least, that's what I'm getting from it after 2 eps.

I wish I could explain why I felt compelled to complete a run of FANTASTIC FORCE, the bad 18-issue Fantastic Four spin-off from the 90s, but the good news is that now it's done I can sell it and move on with my life.

We saw Mulatu Astatke at the RFH today and it was honestly incredible work. I’m not a huge jazz guy but I love his music and figured the final world tour was worth a punt. Just 2 hours of tight, hypnotic, immersive music. Worth heading out into the suddenly cold weather for.

“Please remember your card” yeah, I remember my card, it was a thing I used to pay for things with ten years ago before I could just wave my phone at the till.

Disney+ sent me an email about how they were "updating" my subscription plan, and what they meant was that the price would be going up by another £20 a year for the third time in a row, so I have "updated" my subscription status to not paying it.

Now that everyone’s asleep I am going to say what I’ve been thinking all day: Alan Moore should be the one to write the next Bond movie.

Acknowledging that this is specifically a "US Direct Market Comics Only" version of comics, but I bought a comic this week because it had a specific character on the cover. Was that character actually IN the comic? Were they fuck. Swear to god the US industry is TRYING to be impenetrable.

I’ve read Stereogum (on and off) for over two decades. I cannot overstate how much better it is to have a human talk to you about music than it is to just hear whatever an algorithmically generated playlist spits out.
For years, advertising has been how Stereogum made money to pay its writers. While we made progress moving away from that model, Google AI search has decimated the business almost overnight. Today we relaunch with a greater focus on subscription. We’d love your support: stereogum.com/2478838/ster...

Every now and again I have to take a break from my hobby of buying comics to actually read some. Ice Cream Man: The Mortal Coil Shuffle is a comic told as a deck of cards, imo, is a very good idea that has been executed very well. Worth picking up before its sole printing sells out!
