Sheltering kids from state detention forces to keep them from being rounded up. where have we seen that before…

Oh yeah, Nazi germany.

We are in a time of frightening darkness but people are still stepping up and doing the right thing.
We must keep kicking at the authoritarian darkness until it bleeds daylight.

Banking I think makes more sense, especially for rural/remote. Streamline and give more local access points for banking needs. Yes lots can be done digitally, but in remote areas even that can be a limitation.

PSA: People on bikes aren’t swerving to annoy drivers, they’re just trying not to die or destroy their mode of transportation.
This is generally what the bike portion looks like of our “shared” roads. Glorious.

Honestly, I would trust Canada post more than the big 5 banks in Canada, and I would honestly rather a crown corp gets the interest payments rather than a bunch of c-suite and investors

It’s that wonderful time of year where, if we want to have the fan on as white noise for the sleeping kiddos (softens the bumps and thumps from neighbours), we have to subject ourselves to BLASTING heat 😩. I know it needs to be available, but can’t I have the airflow without night sweats?!

Once you see RTO as one part of an anti-labor movement, it makes other things clear: in-office attendance requirements are designed to force tech workers to remain in expensive cities. Because a tech salary + a rural mortgage = a whole lot of power to say no.

Why have studies when we can listen to Richmond Row businesses blather on about how we are exceptionally built for cars?

Every Study Ever:
Reliable transit, safe active transportation options and fewer cars will improve cities.
London Ontario:
Hmm, can we really trust every study ever done?

When people warn about the privacy and security risks of mandating digital age verification, this is exactly what they mean. It’s not hypothetical www.bbc.com/news/article...
BBC article text: “Discord, a messaging platform popular with gamers, says official ID photos of around 70,000 users have potentially been leaked after a cyber-attack.
The platform, which has more than 200 million users worldwide, says hackers had targeted a firm that helped to verify the ages of its users but the Discord platform itself was not breached.
People can provide ID photos to verify their age on Discord - a networking hub for players to chat and share files with others in the gaming community.
The leaked data may involve personal information, partial credit card details and messages that were exchanged with Discord's customer service agents, the San-Francisco-based company says.”

About *a third* of global fossil fuel CO2 emissions emitted during the Industrial age have occurred in roughly the last 17 years. The previous third was emitted over a period of roughly 26 years. The first third was emitted over a period of about 131 years.

No idea, not that I ever used it since meta doesn’t deserve any more of my data.

Canada has the opportunity to be a world leader in regulating AI's appearance and usage and preventing the death of the factuality of things like the internet. Our regulations do matter, and we can play a leading role globally in ensuring its usage is appropriate

Please fill out this Can Gov survey

I mean, we need some new regulation, like the fact that every bank should be required to offer a full service chequing account for no fees. As in no limits on anything domestic like e-transfers etc.

Saw this as a Starbucks barista, working the drive thru. I can’t articulately explain it, but people conducted themselves differently ordering in the cafe than at the drive-thru.

People felt they could rule by fiat being in a car, and it felt like an in-person version of being a keyboard warrior

when people are in cars they arent in society

Watching antisocial driver behavior in the school drop-off line makes it really clear that the pandemic destroyed whatever few shreds remained of the social compact, just pathological selfishness on display every day

I’m sorry, but if this is news to you, you haven’t been paying attention. This is par for the course with ford.
joshmatlow.bsky.social
You work hard for every dollar you earn. You pay your taxes, but expect they’ll go toward the services & infrastructure we all rely on every day. And then you find out your money’s gone into Doug Ford’s slush fund to hand out to his friends. This corrupt government has to go.

“Imagine there was a truck heading directly for your children. What would you do? Surely everything in your power to save them, including jumping in its way?” That truck is climate change.

Great to speak with @theguardian.com’s Maya Goodfellow about my new book, #RunLikeAGirl.

You know, against my better judgement I decided to listen to the live stream of the Carney + Cheeto "presser".

I don't functionally understand how anyone with even a shred of intelligence can listen to his drivel.

How has the world gotten to the point where its its acceptable to give him air time

Hmm, would this legal route let Canadians challenge Google to prevent it from showing AI summaries as it hurts the ability for people to actually visit websites by deprioritizing their visibility? I guess the same question could be asked as to whether or not it could be used to kill of the adds too

Watching my “cohort” (let’s call it) burn out and/or leave was sad. It’s hard to help motivate the next batch as they come through the doors at the beginning of their own cargo /e-bike journeys 😅🫣😔

seeing young parents experiencing what I did many years ago on a bike getting involved and fighting for change.
ahh yes I remember having some energy and hope.

Oooh that’s a good way to put it: “the economy rewards ownership over work”.
cargobikeben.bsky.social
You can’t fix living standards while the economy rewards ownership over work. Until we rebuild housing and transport around people instead of assets, the cost-of-living crisis will never end.

On top of all of this, we are in WW3 already.

A mere 9 months into the regime and Washington is giving its shock troops the SS "Totenkopf" death's head symbol.
This as they are dragging children out of apartments in the middle of the night.
Canada needs to prepare for what comes next.
