A theory. Everyone who cares about politics on bluesky ALSO needs to make a habit out of posting about their other interests and hobbies. Making bluesky work for many communities of interest will increase the political reach of the experts here.

So I’ve made it official folks: I’ve filed the paperwork to run for Governor of Alabama. It’s time to remind this state of who we are and what we can accomplish together.

We should be fighting for Australia instead of thinking about an attack on Venezuela. That’s still worth 2 extra armies but there is only one entry-point.

I’m reading a book about former congressman Mark Foley but it’s just got too many pages for me to handle.
I’m reading a book on anti gravity. It’s impossible to put down

Ken Burns Am Rev. has some great music in it. If I’m not mistaken, in the Ep2 segment on the American retreat to Île aux Noix it is “Neil Gow's Lament for his second wife” in the background.

The conflict between the Russian government and Ukraine is one of those few conflicts in which one side is clearly and unambiguously right. The United States should support Zelensky’s peace plan: Russian troops leave Ukraine, war over.

I lived life as an autistic person for 41 years, and frankly it's wild to see someone who views your existence as a blight elevated to a position of such consequence. I generally see no reason to discuss being on the spectrum publicly, but I'll make an exception for this vile eugenicist. 1/x
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.

In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

This is not good.
A blockbuster investigation by the AP, out today.

So much in it, give it a read, but starts with: "The U.S. Border Patrol is monitoring millions of American drivers nationwide in a secretive program to identify and detain people whose travel patterns it deems suspicious."

Good morning. I've got a banger new post out today that develops a new method for placing voters on the left-right ideological spectrum, and adds a new, "non-ideological"/affordability axis to usual way we chart & think about US voters (esp swing voters). www.gelliottmorris.com/p/not-just-l...
Not just left vs right: Most voters think about affordability and material wellbeing, not in ideological terms
Most voters want a party that emphasizes cost of living issues and makes the world a better place. Few Americans think in solidly ideologically terms. "Moderates" are mostly non-ideological.

“The remedy […] is to divide the legislature into different branches; and to render them, by different modes of election and different principles of action, as little connected with each other as the nature of their common functions and their common dependence on the society will admit.”
Breaking: The House voted unanimously, 426-0, to strip a provision in the funding bill that allowed senators to sue the government for $500K if their phone data was searched without their knowledge.

The provision was designed for GOP senators to sue over the Jack Smith investigation.

There's very little uncertainty left here.

It's looking extremely likely that Utah will be using this new congressional map next year that's all but guaranteed to flip a seat to Democrats, resulting in a 3R-1D delegation.

The redistricting mess really goes to show the limits of what courts can achieve. What is really needed is a group of reasonable people to make a political judgment about a fair way to do redistricting nationwide (if we are to have single-member districts). 1/2
