It's not "blacklisting" in hack. It's "putting them out of business." I worked for a govt that tried that once (against my advice and one other flack's). The guy promptly spent his suddenly-free time filing freedom of info requests on expenses. Within months, he had taken out two cabinet ministers.
Alberta's Ministry of Education says it is blacklisting CityNews unless it agrees to the UCP government's demand to unpublish a news article and publicly apologize to them

First (or fifth) they came for CityNews and we did ... what?

Yes folks it's time to call this out or every publication or social service that relies on govt funding will be required to bend the knee.

We've seen it with withdrawal of funding for legal clinics

What's next?

The least we can do is not screw them on benefits

Bruce is a pea brain racist, & Dani is too, but they need an 'other' for her base to hate & blame…
Instead of her.

Smith has consolidated a lot of power. Remind people of this, when they try to blame others.

We live on #TreatyLand.

IMO, this government has no moral compass and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Incredible chart from Joe Weisenthal. For the first time (maybe ever) fund managers are telling companies to spend *less* on capital expenditures. It's about AI.

Dr. Wesley's prediction likely to be correct; the UCP government and their alt right media auxiliaries have been beating the anti-immigration drum pretty hard for at least a few months now. Not just as an appeal to the fringe, but also as an excuse for lack of progress on health and housing.
For years, people have said Canada's brand of right-wing populism was unique in lacking a xenophobic, anti-immigrant strain.

Anyone still under that illusion should watch premier Smith's speech to Albertans tomorrow.

To prebunk what we can expect to hear tomorrow:
🔴 Immigrants pay provincial taxes.
🔴 Many non-immigrants don't.

Cutting off immigrants' access to public services isn't about protecting taxpayers.

It's about picking and choosing who is worthy of healthcare and education.

A private market that will be interested, or capable of, dealing with emergencies? Serious illness? A boutique market is not a substitute for a comprehensive healthcare system.

The Montreal Economic Institute is a far right group and much like the Fraser Institute they can not be trusted to deal with real facts they are highly ideologically based. Danielle Smith quoting them demonstrates you are doing the wrong thing and will fail as always.

Thanks. I wanted to share because I need the world to know that the UCP's decisions are having real affects on average Albertans. Thinking about starting a substack to document the journey.

Duane, I’ll wait for the recap & spare myself.

Aside from those that must watch, we should not watch this paid #propaganda, & starve this cow of any attention.

Based on CofS Anderson, sounds like Smith will not be discussing the budget in her TV address on Thursday, but immigration.

So, we can expect more distraction from her government's overall incompetence & terrible handling of a number of important files, more racist dog whistles, & more outright lies and misinformation. Totally predictable, sadly, for this province. Our Premier is not a leader but an aspiring dictator.

Wait. Did it say “I promise to piss it all away again!” Did I read that wrong?
“The province is projecting a $6.4-billion deficit when the fiscal year ends in March, representing a massive multibillion-dollar swing from an $8.3-billion surplus the year prior.”

Smith & the UCP have robbed Albertans blind. Have you had enough Alberta! Fuck.

Remarkable.

After CITYNews ran a story about how the separatism question in Alberta became a distraction from the charitable memorial climb that Demetrios Nicolaides did for his murdered sister…

They have been blackballed by Nicolaides Press Secretary.

The public system does the life saving surgeries, like cancer and heart.

So we'll have less of that going forward as the population increases, and ages.

What could go wrong?

#UCPDeathCult
BREAKING!

Smith says that while she will ensure the public system doesn't decrease the amount of surgeries under her two tiered private system...

She's not going to require any growth.

This is how you create a private market with a growing population.

The BC government is furiously defending a new term they made up, called "re-pace", to describe removing many long-term care facilities from the capital budget

They really don't like people saying they've been cancelled or indefinitely delayed

But also, there's no longer any financial commitment
