Pretty much all on the inflation in December was due to the rise in costs of international and domestic holiday travel and accomodation. Take that away and inflation in the month was 0.0%

Can’t wait to hear Ted O’Brien blame that on the govt “crowding out” the private sector O_o

Younger generations “have fallen out of love with Harry Potter because they have fallen out of love with the worldview the series represents,” writes Louise Perry. “Which is to say that young people have fallen out of love with liberalism.”

Aiyah, in a ‘perfect storm’ of my least favourite metaphor, The Grauniad Australia reports:

4 shark bites in 5 days are due to a ‘perfect storm’ of shark attack conditions: the aftermath of an intense rain storm.

A ‘perfect storm’ of nice swimming weather is part of it.

Ultimately, it's best to think of Scott Adams as another creative person who went through the full Linehanisation process.

Not a victim. That process is ALWAYS self inflicted.

But a warning.

That just because you're creatively successful doesn't mean you know more, or are better, than anyone else

Hi! I observe that Crikey still has a Xitter link below your (thoughtful!) article today, you should see if they can scrub that given your (good) choice to abandon the platform.

Unbelievably, it's been 25 years since we lost Kirsty MacColl yet the beauty of her music and her memory still resonate. Here's a song I wrote for her to sing in the 1995 movie 'Mad Love'.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

Bluesky has also asked the @australia.theguardian.com account to put in its age, and is even more restrictive.

Guardian Australia can't use @bsky.app, though 3rd party posts are still going through.

I won't put GdnAus's 2013 launch as birth date in case it nukes the account. Maybe I'll try 1821

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

LinkedIn literally means you're linked in, speaking to media literally means a permanent record, describing what you do in a recorded public forum literally means on the public record. Choose the way you behave and to whom in real life carefully, because real life and online are now the same.

Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.
