I'm going to try to keep at least part of this account more light-hearted and fun instead of just another doom scroll, so here's a thread of sites and stuff I find interesting.
Nothing has dispelled the notion that governors are competent leaders of state quite like Noem, Palin, and Chris Christie being just craven TV personalities.
Largely agree, with the added caveat that there are usually technological factors and limitations that can't really be worked around on a meaningful timeframe so they get yada yada'd around in the story. So it's both driving behavior and trying to distract from actual blockers.
Yeah, Moulton would absolutely push Dems the wrong way on a lot of issues both in MA and nationally.
If you look at the pictures and do brief searches of the people who said those texts they aren't "kids"; a lot of them were mid-to-late 20s and early 30s. Sure, if these were 14-year-olds in a COD game I'd buy it but these aren't children, just like Kirk wasn't either.
I feel like the first Captain America unintentionally nailed a bit of it with "most Nazis were into imaginary pagan stuff, and there's this REALLY weird guy who was into even crazier things that were sorta true". Just made everyone look insane.
Again, I'm old enough to very much remember how Romney was portrayed in 2012 and it was as an empty suit plutocrat. Santorum ran on a ton of culture war issues and got traction, but the legacy GOP was just able to win out with Romney. But combined with Sarah Palin you could see the turn coming.
Yeah, people seem to think Collins accidentally keeps winning her seat. She's really tough and especially in a place like Maine it takes a particular type of candidate to do well.
Mayor Wu isn't remotely scared of this administration and it's funny to see this dullard try to act like he'd actually follow thru on these threats.
Boston looks forward to welcoming the world to our beautiful city, the cradle of liberty and city of champions.
Trump on moving World Cup games from Boston: "We could take them away. Your mayor is not good."
Some of the most politically engaged people I've met are suburban moms who plan local No Kings rallies and election postcard drives while at barre yoga. Doubt them at your own risk.
The part where "Young Republicans" spans those age 18-40 is extra depressing because we're talking about people well into their "adult years" who think being racist and Edgelordy on Telegram makes them cool. Usually we reserve that behavior for the VP of the US and the owner of Xwitter.
I can promise you with 100% certainty these people are exactly as trollish, mouth-breathing failsons and faildaughters as you imagine.
To call Harry Enten a data science guy is an insult to both "data" and "science".
Yale Law School and Amy Chua just pumping out the best and brightest, I see.
Also, so many of the media types are stuck on Xwitter and thus get an even more distorted view of the average voter's viewpoint. Lots of people who aren't terminally online.
It's quite clear now that Trump mostly governs by limited object permanence so if he gets told something is bad he will almost immediately try to "fix" it and caving is the obvious best option. He has no real long term strategy.
It's a bunch of vibes-y substacks stitched together with a shared CRM funded by a couple of conservative shady billionaires. It's sadly the direction a lot of news sources are going but it's particularly awful.
Single 40-something men who spend all day doing ad reads for meal services are the bedrock of US society, apparently.
Definitely going to help retaining the Hispanic vote for GOP when they've got a white lady yelling about how God doesn't approve of Bad Bunny playing at halftime of the SB.
He writes like someone who gets handed bags of money from ghouls and doesn't ask what they're for but assumes it must be because he's the most erudite, special boy in the room.
Him and Bari Weiss are great examples of how if you flatter the right people the lack of talent is almost better.
TCW was likely seeing most of these protests from his second home in the French countryside so not a total surprise he lacks a substantive connection to struggles being protested around that time.
It feels like the entire Trump orbit expected swift capitulation by the Dems and when they didn't the administration suddenly realized they didn't have nearly as many other ways to put the screws to liberals as they thought. Super-duper firing people isn't really effective.
If WaPo's editorial board couldn't read a room incorrectly I'm not sure they could read anything.
Ezra Klein would, of course, claim this Nazi kid was doing campus discourse the right way.
People who list their height and IQ next to a blue check they pay for every month are telling on themselves to the nth degree.
The ongoing contention that it's people like Miller calling the shots while Trump is just a doddling figurehead grows stronger, which might actually be a benefit for Dems because everyone else in this admin seems like an absolutely unhinged and unlikeable asshole.
