Yeah, I don't want to be on any other camera, either.

Look, I'm sure that Nolan's adaptation of "The Odyssey" will be fun, but I highly doubt it will be as good as the original.

You have to get to nearly the end of the article to learn that smoking levels are around the lowest level recorded, and there is no assertion that the 10% increase in entertainment usage is translating to more smokers.

I'm shocked the media is still laundering Truth Institute information.
With more actors, pop stars and other celebrities spotted unapologetically smoking, the cultural taboo against it shows signs of ebbing. That worries antismoking advocates. 🔗 on.wsj.com/49om2X4

ICE has posted a video of Santa Claus arresting immigrants. Your government is hijacking a symbol of charity to spread fear and hate. it’s up to all of us to defeat these twisted fascists.

In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.

Before everyone checks out for the holidays, I just want to say that this story about James Carver that was published earlier this year is the best thing I've ever written, and I'm tremendously proud of it.

Please read it if you haven't yet, and please share it.
My latest for @theappeal.org:

James Carver spent 36 years in prison after he was convicted of setting one of the deadliest fires in #Massachusetts history. But after reviewing new scientific evidence, a judge set him free.

“They took my life away for nothing,” Carver said.

Jail should be abolished in nearly all cases, but the exception carveout should absolutely include the monster who thinks HARD KOMBUCHA is a good idea.

Worcester folks! This movie was apparently heavily inspired by an art theft at Worcester Art Museum.

(h/t @travelswithbrindle.bsky.social for telling me about it a few months back)
Had the pleasure of interviewing one of my favorite filmmakers, Kelly Reichardt, about one of the best movies of the year, The Mastermind. Read it on @letterboxd.social Journal here: boxd.it/2Mu

As someone who is still fairly conservative leaning despite the infection that overtook the GOP over the last decade, this feels like a canary in a coal mine moment.

This should have happened in December 2015, but this is a bigger deal than you (collective) think.
I think this is an another data point concerning where things are going, nothing more. but, it’s worth a read. reason.com/volokh/2025/...

A web browser is an operating system, the collection of necessary mechanisms to create a platform for accessing and correctly rendering the content of the web. Any manipulation or distortion of that content is in conflict with that purpose.
If Firefox were taking it "seriously and absolutely" they'd simply say "we're not putting LLMs in our web browser, because it's a web browser."
Something that hasn't been made clear: Firefox will have an option to completely disable all AI features.

We've been calling it the AI kill switch internally. I'm sure it'll ship with a less murderous name, but that's how seriously and absolutely we're taking this.

A reminder if you're visiting New York for the holidays that the city's unnaturally high hotel prices result from a shortage of room space that was purposely engineered by city law, policy, and regulation, much of it at the behest of interest groups.
Can’t afford to visit New York city for Christmas? Blame the city government.
The city has removed tens of thousands of rooms available to tourists while making it significantly harder to build and expand hotels.
