Immigration to the U.S. should be simple, easy, speedy, affordable and humane. Our policies should support our values, our needs. Families should be able to be safe, and together. Workers should be able to work. We should be a beacon. We should educate and welcome the world. We could. We can.

Anyone have a good rec for an education / student rights attorney in Oakland County, Michigan, particularly with regards to suspension / expulsion proceedings? Asking for a friend.

Interestingly, this is one of the few situations besides bribery/ corruption that I'd always allow impeachment for. Intellectual dishonesty in a Bari Weiss or a TCW is par for the course. It's what's on the label.

Intellectual dishonesty from a judge? Time for their time on the bench to end.
He both made up a quote and used it to imply the exact opposite of the actual holding in that case.
Question about the dissent by (the far-right) Justice Ziegler: Does this quote actually appear in Moore v. Harper? Did Moore say that state courts' role in congressional redistricting is "exceedingly limited"? I don't think it did! vhdshf2oms2wcnsvk7sdv3so.blob.core.windows.net/thearp-media...

Some great news for your Tuesday! A federal court has granted a nationwide class action injunction ordering the federal government to stop refusing to hear requests for release on bond to immigrants who originally entered across the border.

This is called “chain refoulment” and it’s illegal under both U.S. and international law. And the State Department and ICE know very well what Ghana is doing and simply don’t care.
ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

1. In Tennessee, public libraries have closed for up to a week to facilitate a Trump-inspired book purge.

Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett (R) has ordered most of the state's public librarians to remove children's books with LGBTQ characters or themes.

I share the positivity and disagree with the comparison, see LRT
BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

Agree with this nitpick. The decision seems like a big deal. But it’s the first big deal, not the culmination. Inch by inch!
Not to nitpick, but this is more the equivalent of the 2013 Windsor ruling (which mandated states recognize other states' same-sex marriages) rather than Obergefell (which required all states perform same-sex marriages)

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

NEW data I've received: Just 5% of people detained by ICE since October 1 have had violent criminal convictions, 3/4 had no criminal convictions at all. Most "criminals" had immigration, traffic, and vice offenses. Not the "worst of the worst"...

A thing people don’t know that may underlie this decision: a “professional degree” gives a Canadian or a Mexican a right to a TN visa, which allows you to show up at the border with your diploma and a job offer and get a visa on the spot. That may be what’s going on here.
In case you missed it: The DoEd has proposed a new definition of "professional degrees," reducing the list from roughly 2,000 programs to fewer than 600. This change limits loan accessibility for though no longer considered professional, in particular, many healthcare degrees 🧵

Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.
