This is the playbook, folks.

If you're not paying attention now and doing something about it, then you're going to have to sit down the rest of your life because democracy is being taken away.

Do not be quiet in this moment.

The rejection of national unity post-Trump is right on the mark. I study conflict in Africa, and the failure to hold perpetrators of violence accountable is a major factor in renewed conflict. We ourselves are still suffering from our failure to hold the South accountable after the Civil War.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

the people who did this should be afraid.

Just to level set on this:

What they have experienced are some of the worst things that a government could possibly do to people. There is absolutely nothing that happened here that should have happened. The people responsible for this should have it follow them the rest of their lives.

CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery.

America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons.

Watch and share his message.

This emergency food aid, enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week, will be incinerated tomorrow rather than distributed in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Another in a long list of Trump's crimes against humanity.

it gets more complicated than this, but the really short version is that the price of money is how much money you have to commit to paying in the future to get money today--which is to say, the interest rate

Personalist autocracies underperform, whereas institutionalised autocracies perform similar to democracies (in terms of economic growth)

New paper alert! 📣

@chrisblattman.bsky.social, Arthur Yu, and I reexamine the autocratic growth penalty—the finding that autocracies systematically underperform democracies in economic growth.

TL;DR, the penalty is concentrated in personalist, not institutionalized autocracies.

I would like Trump's letter to Brazil to live on as one of the important primary source documents of the Trump era, linking trade restrictions in historical memory to impunity for criminal behavior, right-wing nationalist authoritarian politics, coups, domestic illegality, and simple illiteracy.

We must all do our patriotic duty of clicking every link and watching every clip CNN uploads to YouTube about Trump's Epstein cover-up. 🫡 Go login to Facebook for the first time in 7 years and share it with your weirdest family members and most credulous long-forgotten high school acquaintances.

Today I used Claude Code to convert a long completed latex manuscript to quarto. It was done flawlessly on the first try. That saved me hours of work.

This is the kind of insinuation it is your patriotic duty to spread. The Republican Party has poisoned our water forever, and we can’t undo it but we can return the favor. Keep going until we create woke Pizzagate, except this time, it’ll be true.

Given the evidence my investigators have seen, this reeks of a coverup.

Today's stage of the Tour de France took place in Normandy, and TV coverage featured footage from Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery. After all their sacrifice, I can't believe Nazis are back.

It's become pretty clear over the past 3 weeks and/or 3 years that the "Democrats need to expand the Supreme Court right now" enthusiasts were correct in 2021, and that if and when Democrats regain power, they cannot get caught flat-footed again slate.com/news-and-pol...
The Past Four Years at the Supreme Court Did Not Need to Be This Way
Part of the reason court reform failed in 2021 is that Democrats were unprepared for Ginsburg’s spectacularly ill-timed death.
