$1 billion data centre to maybe create 100 jobs. That's likely an overstatement.

It is truly not worth draining the living word for this vampiric tech and people are starting to realize it.

Seriously? He has no idea how insurance works or how to govern. I’ll never get over 77 million people thinking a man this incompetent belongs anywhere near the Oval Office.

It sounds like the worst fiction novel plot ever, but this is real life.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

Political violence is evil, killing people is evil, a country with more guns in it than people is broken, and what the government is saying about political violence right now being a primarily leftwing phenomenon is factually, statistically untrue. They are using this moment to rewrite history.

Nope. Richest country in history, just fucked itself because it was bored, tired of peace & prosperity.

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

And yes, I was the last Black full-time columnist in the Opinion section.

Washington Post -- operating in a city which for a long time has been majority Black, is now without any full-time Black opinion writers.

There's no better example of how this entire society is structured around the concept that the white, straight, mainly conservative and "Christian" group must always be shown the utmost respect, while being given the right to decide if/when/how much to respect anyone from any other group receives.

So a few things start to happen. First and foremost the presidency is no longer worthy of respect and deference. In the Republican mind, any role that can be inhabited by a person who’s not a white man is not an important role. (Unless that person is entirely subjugated. See Clarence Thomas)

Louisiana has to build three new natural gas power plants to accommodate the "AI" data center that Meta just crammed through because said center will use *Three Times* as much electricity (and, thus, attendant resources) as the *Entire City Of New Orleans*, every year.

Y'all this isn't sustainable.

I think about this all the time. They’re eliminating every federal agency except Homeland Security and Defense.
Building an entire infrastructure for a new program while every government agency that doesn’t directly kill people has been gutted financially. Instead of just giving people money for food the way we have an infrastructure for already.

Very important to understand that reports of people pretending to be ICE agents in order to terrorize communities is very much the point and the strategy in the first place.

The bedrock white conservative ideal is that white people can do whatever they want to whoever they want for any reason.

The usefulness of this tech is pathetically narrow. The environmental costs are staggering. The destruction of livelihoods and careers from AI-justified layoffs is only beginning to be felt.

All of this could stop if it was possible to say, no thank you, not for me. So they made it that you can't.

Trump firing the BLS director for a bad jobs report - days after demanding the Smithsonian remove him from the list of impeached presidents - is banana republic stuff.

If a Democrat pulled these stunts, Republicans would be setting themselves on fire outside the White House.

Washington, D.C., has a population roughly equivalent to Alaska's.

And it has zero senators. If D.C. had senators, the GOP megablil bill would have failed today.

Instead, Murkowski got carve-outs and money for Alaska, and then voted to subject DC to the bill
