3 things Starmer could do instead of camps in old barracks that would actually WORK👇

1. Create safe, regulated routes to apply for asylum in the UK

2. Let asylum seekers WORK & support themselves

3. Fast track status for people from obviously unsafe countries

Keir Starmer tries to look tough - and exposes himself as a coward
The government's immigration policy is in desperate need of a bold change in direction.

LR was one of the last things I did too.

Hope it goes well x
This is really important. The ECHR is an important body that the UK helped create after the horrors of WW2.

We have no written constitution that helps protect everyone. And even in countries with a constitution people are open to abuse.

We should never leave.
Friendly reminder: these are the rights we all have under the ECHR.

They're not just for a privileged few

They're for EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US
Yes to all this and we also need to remember that the Minister for Women and Equality hasn’t changed, is still a transphobe and ignored the WEC and JCHR to appoint Stephenson to EHRC.

Actions speak louder than words or shop window appointments.
But Jasmine is clearly the best, albeit posh! 🍥🍰

Asylum seekers, housed in hotels in Manchester, are reaching out in their own words to address the concerns of the local community.

Please take a minute to read their letter, & share it with the people in your life who need to hear the truth about the people they are protesting.

The risible wages are well-known in the wider field of the library, museum, gallery and archive world. I’d like to think public opinion is with the people who make the place click day-in-day-out; they deserve better.
Knowledge may be free but labour isn’t: spread the wealth and pay the workers!
I do love this, really. I have had an EV since 2016 and now solar and battery.

The key for finishing the job on gas and coal though is better battery tech to store power and release when it’s needed. Better investment there will help smooth the bumps, alongside the obvious but v.high cost nuclear.
Oh, and good morning btw! 🙂
In some way incremental change may work in the opposite direction but sometimes you need to tear something down and start again.

At the moment, I’m very much hoping the challenge on EHRC legitimacy by the human rights orgs through GANHRI might bear some fruit and start the process of rebuilding.
Saturday morning is here again.

Christmas puddings steaming ✅
Housework done ✅
Mathematics for the rest of the morning- Yay!

(Yes, I’m weird but hey, who’s normal?!)

Just to add: segregation always ends badly. Always.

We know this from history.

“But women’s safety” doesn’t cut it here because there’s no evidence, from anywhere in the world, that women’s safety is compromised by trans inclusion.

Again: segregation is BAD.

It must be stopped.
I’m grateful to any MP standing up for their trans constituents, so thank you Marie.

However, I no longer think a debate and free vote is enough.

The Code is unworkable, immoral and puts the government in direct breach of its existing Convention obligations.

The EHRC must re-write it.
The voices of trans people must be heard in Parliament.️‍‍ I’ve urged full scrutiny of EHRC’s guidance, which risks undermining their rights. Lib Dems call on the Government to protect everyone fairly and ensure people aren’t excluded from safe facilities or public life.

I’m not sure trusting the EHRC on this is an option. And given their report on disability in the uk was panned too, trusting the EHRC on anything may take some time.

Theo are good people there that are 💯 for equality and human rights but the leadership model is broken and has to be fixed first.

A Whitehall source hit back at the EHRC's attempt to rush ministers, saying that the EHRC itself has yet to provide all the information needed to scrutinise the guidance, including an equalities impact assessment

If you’re on Agile and have batteries you can basically run your home at 7p a unit for the whole day.

Not lying though, got the immersion and washing machine timed for 9pm tonight and again tomorrow when there’s 3 hours free!

Thanks Octopus!

Contrary to the impression given to the Council of Europe in 2011 the UK therefore does not presently and did not at that time have a legal process for a change of sex as is required by the ECHR judgments of Goodwin v UK and Grant v UK.
