Honestly, I didn't even think about reading romance until earlier this year. Partly because I'd read some Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts lying around in beach rentals when I was a kid and they left me cold, but also, in a really big way, because of internalized misogyny
I'm not in the least surprised Crave/HBOs Heated Rivalry, based on Rachel Reid's romances, seems to be taking off in the places I hang out on bsky.

@swordsjew.bsky.social has been documenting (hilariously) his reading romance novels. It's a perfect summary of why this readership is fascinating.

The vibe shift today is, I think, due to the fact that New Yorkers were on the offensive instead of the defensive.

Usually with protests, demonstrators have to defend the space, defend their right to march, etc. They get beat up and pushed around and antagonized into chaos and trauma.

Puffins have returned to Northern Ireland’s Isle of Muck (seriously, that’s its name) for the first time in at least 25 years. Tales of puffins on the island “felt more like folklore,” said nature reserves manager Andy Crory, but now they’re coming back. buff.ly/oBQlH6r

Saw an amazing little exhibition at the new Petri archaeology museum in Berlin - "degenerate" art confiscated by the Nazis and excavated in 2010 during construction of a metro station.

Saw the news about NW.
Yup. I paid off my federal student loans in a lump sum with a windfall that maybe should have gone into savings because I am not giving one voluntary dime in interest to that plundering sham of an admin. Like heck would I donate to a school that would divert funds to it. Just. No.

Things are ok in MN, DJT.

(As if you think about Minnesota from year to the next.)
TRUMP: If you look at Somalia, they are taking over Minnesota.

REPORTER: What do the Somalians have to do with this Afghan guy who shot the National Guard members?

TRUMP: Ah, nothing. But Somalians have caused a lot of trouble. They're ripping us off.

someone just asked me to repost this as I just dropped off my old & insufficient Mazda 3 at the shop for repairs. If someone in NE has a dog-friendly, winter-ready car they aren’t using that I could use including for rapid response (& potentially live in) that would be incredibly helpful.

Here's another wonderful thread with a perfect zine byway.
tell me what you're cooking that you're excited about! i love kitchen drama. i am forgoing the turkey in favor of a low and very slow braise of some good brisket in guinness that will ultimately be a pie. and since dinner is pie, dessert will be be a cranberry cheesecake.

Well this is a wonderful thread!
🧵 As it’s Thanksgiving, I thought I’d share an American artist. John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was one of the great US painters. He was a dashing portraitist as well as one of the first major artists to explore his sexuality in his art. I love his use of colour & outsider eye! [1]
