The longer the govt is shut down the more people get their renewals, and the more people who aren't already convinced will realize that the Republicans are lying that it's about Healthcare for undocumented immigrants.

Also this bill is impossible
Just receieved this today from Florida Blue. This is for a Bronze plan. Our monthly premiums are going from $333 (2025) to $2300 in 2026.
Whole thread, my friends. The ACA is not perfect, but it saves lives.
Are we doing "The ACA Sucks" Discourse again?

I'm going to guess most people hating on it from the left have never received a hospital bill the size of book; I put the apple there for scale.

That's the $1.3 million bill my kid incurred in his first ~94 days. Why does that make me respect the ACA?

Hating the ACA is similar to hating on vaccines.

It's a luxury borne of not really appreciating what existed before.

The fix wasn't perfect, and there is a lot more that we could do to make it better.

But the "ACA Was Bad" Discourse is just untethered from reality.

curious how many claim now that they always thought it was wrong to vote to leave the EU
Ah! Good morning, reality. And welcome. We’ve been expecting you…

Schools in South Carolina recently sent home unvaccinated kids, to stem a growing measles outbreak. Turns out 5 of them were infected and, if they'd been at school, could've unwittingly infected their classmates for days.

That kind of precaution is now illegal in Idaho.
Idaho Banned Vaccine Mandates. Activists Want to Make It a Model for the Country.
The Idaho Medical Freedom Act makes it illegal to require anyone to take a vaccine or receive “medical intervention.” Leslie Manookian, the activist behind the law, hopes to make it a “societal norm” ...

Honestly a more embarrassing thing for the head of a major news organization to say than “let’s do the fucking news.”

I rarely if ever get the urge to deep clean and reorganize my kitchen. But that is how I spent my day. After I purged the spring and summer wear and swapped it with the fall/winter stuff yesterday. I was productive this weekend but now I am too exhausted to face Monday.

You know, sometimes it's okay to have no new ideas. Really.
“At toilet time, you sign in via a fingerprint sensor so that the device knows who's using the facilities. (Please wash your hands before signing out or tracking your progress.) Then, check in with the app for the day's analysis and trends over time.”

I always wondered why France had so many heists but if you can still just put a ladder up to a window on the Louvre in the year 2025 and get away with a big bag full of priceless jewels I guess that solves the mystery

seems that RFK is clearing the path for his CDC to do tuskegee syphillis experiments as a matter of course. in other news, RFK is a genuine monster who relishes in the pain and suffering of those he feels he has control or dominion over
RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.
Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.

Reminder: We spent YEARS reading thousands and thousands of articles on the Tea Party and how it was a true expression of the American people's will, and it never mounted anything nearly as big as Saturday's No Kings rallies. [1/3]
Bonus kid cooked dinner tonight for us. He’s such a good kid. He made the most giant chicken parm I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t even eat half of one piece. So much food.

Also, it drives me crazy that Universities are embracing AI when they are plagiarizing everyone else's work and plagiarism is supposedly not allowed in academia. It's only allowed when a computer does it? Wtf.
I keep seeing Pritzker denouncing ICE and Trump, but if I’m reading some skeets correctly the Illinois State Police is also behaving in a rather disturbing way? Does he not have authority over the ISP or is something else going on?
That was most definitely a shot fired at Moulton. Who does not think the same thing.
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) at the Boston No Kings rally today, wore the trans pride flag like a scarf draped over his shoulders and included in his speech. "Because here in Massachusetts, we stand for what is right. We stand with trans people because trans rights are human rights."

It is true every day, but days like today just are huge reminders that for all it's many and varied faults this country was always great and it deserves better than what it's political branches give it in return

When there’s so clearly more people who don’t want fascism than do want fascism it becomes pretty fucking unignorable that the Democratic Party has a widespread candidate, platform and messaging problem. Every election is theirs to lose, and they do.
