Look with all due respect Trump is very unpopular and most Americans do not approve of pretty much anything he’s doing. Our political and media institutions are pathetic, filled with cowards looking for a boot to crawl under, but even despite pressure to comply Americans broadly do not condone this

Important to remember that not only did we pass #SB79, the biggest transit-oriented upzoning bill ever, we also passed a clean CEQA exemption for new multifamily infill housing.

This is, bar none, the biggest year in state action on housing policy reform in California history. Not even close.

❗️Putin's logic:Poland has provoked Hitler who wanted to find a peaceful solution:

Poland made many mistakes.Germany offered to resolve the issue of Danzig&the Danzig Corridor peacefully. The Polish leadership at the time categorically refused&,in the end, became the first victim of Nazi aggression

Lots of excitement over SB 79—understandably. I would add, every single bill California YIMBY sent to the governor was signed today. www.gov.ca.gov/2025/10/10/g...

The Napa area had almost zero STRs available for rent this weekend. I assume that means they don't have a housing crisis 🥑

Legalizing "small" gets big results if we do it at scale.
berkie1.bsky.social
We don’t just need to build more, we need to embrace building small again.

Our zoning, building codes, permitting & financial systems wiped out the small-scale builders who once shaped great American neighborhoods.

It’s time to rethink how we make “small” possible again.

republicans are NIMBYs who want your rents to go up

this is why I have zero time for democratic NIMBYs. We need to forcefully embrace more housing to lower the rents, increase walkability, and boost economic growth

Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.

Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.

SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

I'd previously never watched Metallica's music video for 'One'.

It's intense!

democracy any man would give his Al Overview
 Đf +3
The phrase "For democracy, any man would give his only begotten son" is a line from the song
"One" by the band Metallica, spoken by a character in the movie Johnny Got His Gun. The song,
and the movie it uses clips from, is about a WWI soldier, Joe Bonham, who loses his arms, legs, and
face in an artillery shell and is trapped as a prisoner in his own body, unable to communicate except
through Morse code. The line expresses the profound sacrifice that some people believe is justified
for a political cause, in this case, democracy.
Here's a breakdown of the quote's context within the song:
 • Source: The line is spoken by the character's father in the 1971 film adaptation of Johnny Got His
 Gun.
 • Usage in "One": The music video for Metallica's song "One" features clips from Johnny Got His
 Gun, including this dialogue.
 • Meaning: The quote is presented in the song as a justification for the war that led to Joe
Bonham's devastating injuries. It highlights the immense cost of war and the sometimes
unquestioned sacrifices made in the name of democracy.
 • Themes of "One": The song, in general, is widely interpreted as an anti-war song, exploring
themes of war, its psychological effects, and the neglect of veterans' mental health.

I can't stop thinking about this. We're pursuing zero fire risk in multifam, while tolerating much more in single-fam. People respond by building and living in single-fam, where they're exposed to not only one of the highest fire death risks in the developed world, but also TONS more car crash risk

Trump 2.0 has really exposed how brittle and broken the West Coast states' tax systems are. WA, OR, and CA all have a 1% property tax cap. WA has a sales tax but no income tax; OR has an income tax but no sales tax. It is not possible to effectively resist Trump without fixing these tax systems.

The news has sent counties throughout California into a panic. The state is bracing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars for permanent housing, which is the one thing experts agree on as the most effective way to solve homelessness. https://cal.news/4nBKuZI
