Reintroduction now that we're all determined to move here: I'm a playwright & theatre critic. I'd love to find more theatre nerds here!

Big fan of Twin Peaks, Star Trek and film/TV in general.

Recently holidayed in Canada with a side quest to Bangor, reigniting my love of Stephen King.
No, though the increasing number of grey hairs isn't helping.

Greetings, I have traveled through time from the year 2016 to remind you of something that has become increasingly difficult to believe in your time: Stranger Things used to be good.
It Might Be the Most Popular TV Show in the World. It Keeps Getting Worse and Worse.
There’s a pretty glaring problem with Stranger Things’ final season.

My gentle advice for aspiring film critics in Australia: honey, this isn't a real job here. I've been doing this for 20 years: last year I earned exactly minimum wage for mostly foreign clients, so 1/5th of that goes to the tax office. You needing another job to support this doesn't reflect on you 💜

Okay, well, first of all, calling it "the Bajoran war" makes it sound like it's the Bajorans' fault that their world was occupied by Cardassia, and that they were wrong to fight back; SECOND, I am in this picture and I do not like it.
Bluesky not addictive to teens but definitely a crutch for elder millennials who know too much about the Bajoran war.

Meta, YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat know how addictive their platforms can be to teens.

Those are allegations a group of school districts is making against the social media giants, according to a newly unsealed legal filing that quotes the companies’ own internal documents. https://cnn.it/3Xjq5x5

This, a million times over. Please tell people when you like their work. Creatives can go a very long time without any outside input at all, positive or otherwise, so a gesture of appreciation often makes all the difference in the world.
Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

My James Bond/Jason Bourne mash-up movie with Daniel Craig and Matt Damon and after a long day of spying, there's lots of fucking.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

There's a new genre of outrage post where the poster is still in the middle of reading an article or listening to a podcast and all their concerns are addressed - if only they finished reading/listening before jumping online to express their disappointment/frustration/anger.

I love the stage musical, but this gets to the meat of why For Good didn't quite work. The film is so concerned with redeeming Glinda that it forgives her for being a collaborator.
Now that folks have had the weekend to see WICKED: FOR GOOD, I'm over at @thewrap.com going long about how the ending doesn't just fail to meet to moment, it fails to live up to what Jon M. Chu and co. set up in Part 1.

"The girl in the bubble," indeed.

The 'Wicked: For Good' Ending Fails to Meet the Moment | Commentary
The ending of "Wicked: For Good" avoids the darker conclusion from the book, but does a disservice to the sociopolitical commentary in the process.

The Greens trying to cut a deal with the government on this terrible enviro bill is incredibly dumb, and the best way to lose a bunch more seats at the next election imo.

The bill itself is terrible, and voting for it just takes a key issue of theirs off the agenda for this term of parliament.

I think both franchises have suffered pretty significantly this century. Neither have been consistently good. Disney Wars at least has ANDOR. Streaming Trek has been rough.
You ever think about just how handily Star Trek has won the Star Wars/Star Trek war? Turns out making a lot of good content is really hard!
