"I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts." = Republican
Cosmopolitan asks Sydney Sweeney if she ever intends to publicly state her political beliefs:

“No. I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts. I’m not here to speak on politics. That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into… but I don’t believe in hate in any form.”

Please support Lamestream. They’re doing the best media and political analysis in the country. Priceless stuff.
The coverage of One Nation this week has been some of the softest coverage of any political force, ever. It's been a shocking week.

I think people would be shocked to realise how it compares to what journalists were asking Pauline Hanson 25 years ago.

The Media Forgot How to Cover One Nation Properly
Three decades ago, Pauline Hanson’s brand of politics was so shocking, aberrant and dangerous that it made the front page of The Washington Post. This week, Australian journalists gave her the softest...

I keep thinking "it's two years until the next election, maybe the LNP can get their shit together and ONP's support will collapse" and then I think " but it's still a full two years away, ONP's support might only strengthen in that time"! Given the surge in far-right parties across the world.
🚨 6 NEWS PROJECTION (based on latest YouGov poll): One Nation on track to become official opposition as the former Coalition parties collapse in support

YouGov's poll result:

🟥 ALP: 31%
🟧 ONP: 25%
🟦 LIB: 14%
🟩 GRN: 12%
🟦 LNP (QLD): 4%

In other words: 27% of the country is behind the fascist militia. One in four people are good with the authoritarianism. It's down from 1 in 3 but 1 in 4 is still way too many.
Pew has Trump's approval at 37%. And:

"Only about a quarter of Americans today (27%) say they support all or most of Trump’s policies and plans, down from 35% when he returned to office last year. That change has come entirely among Republicans."

While analyzing our 2025 submission data, I noticed that the US is now the primary producer of slop submissions (which includes fully and partially-generated/assisted/whatever). Congrats. You're #1. Happy? You should be embarrassed. Please stop.

(In 2023 and 2024, the US wasn't in the top three.)

In theatre? Oh, they have declared war on America!
Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

The Labor Party really suppresses individuals when it comes to divisive issues like this. Anne Aly, a Muslim MP, shouldn't have to welcome Israel's PM. But even her original statement where she refused to endorse it is so flawed in its logic. I feel sorry she is in this position.
Aly speaks after refusing to welcome Israeli president's visit as nationwide protests planned
Organisers of nationwide protests argue the Isaac Herzog isn't welcome, while the prime minister has backed his visit.

Hearing him say this twice verbatim means it wasn't a poor choice of words, it was vetted and approved. Cynical capitulation to fascism. I was still trying to keep some respect for Walz, but it's gone. "Good faith" he says, while they tear gas grade schools. Homan is barely human, Tim.
TIM WALZ: “I don't agree with Tom Homan’s philosophy on things, but I do understand that he is law enforcement and he understands right and wrong.”

There's polling today that suggests on current numbers One Nation could win 30+ seats. Here's a quick thread of why I think this is *very* unlikely to actually pan out

Now, a federal election probably won't be until early 2028, and a lot could change, but here's why I'm not too worried now

That's extreme.

Feeling for all the folks who were/are affected by this heatwave (we've been spared here in Sydney but other capitals and regional areas are really in the thick of it)
