Star Wars. Superheroes. Pizza.
Final thoughts: I really love the Danny DeVito framing device of “The War of the Roses”, but I found Cumberbatch and Colman a lot more endearing than either Turner or Douglas. Though in both movies, my sympathies were largely with the one who wanted out - Barbara and Theo. 1/

“The accent is confusing.”

Ncuti Gatwa says that with a straight face in “The Roses” while failing to do an American accent. Layers.

“So sex is off the table then?”

“That’s well intuited.”

“How about a three hour circular argument that goes nowhere?”

“The War of the Roses” is a great movie, but “The Roses” has been a lot funnier.
I haven't seen it yet, but I want to watch it and "The War of the Roses" back to back.

Target and Fortnite both using the same awful ripoff of Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” is just an awful bit of synchronicity.

I have played so many #StarWars card games. I think the only ones I missed were the digital only ones. And that trend will continue.

I expect this to be #Marvel Snap or some such. Small decks, no interaction, little strategy.

If FFG could make #StarWarsUnlimited Arena... I might be into that.

Probably T'pol. Tendi would be too easily distracted and we'd never even touch the syllabus. Stamets would be to esoteric - he's a genius, but he has no way of easily conveying that genius to normies.

And I hate "Voyager". I have tried *so many times* to watch it. Can't. So. There's that.
Which of these #StarTrek characters would you prefer to learn science from?

I like when Miss Piggy (as Mrs Cratchit) is primly supervising the roasting of the goose. Peter chirps “It smells so good, mother”, and while checking herself in the mirror Piggy drops a vocal register and says “It *does*, doesn’t it?” with a guttural relish that can only be described as carnal.

Found the anti-Bothan.
2025 had empire strikes back vibes I admit it.

2026 better have return of the Jedi vibes.

You could probably convince someone this is the original Silent Era "KPop Demon Hunters".
Madge Bellamy flanked by Anita Garvin (L) and Sally Phipps (R) in Bertha, the Sewing Machine Girl (1926). Tuesday.

ANOTHER movie that has a stronger claim to Christmas than the song "My Favorite Things".
Them: So What’s Your Favorite Christmas Movie ?

Me:

I got so deep into watching horror in October. Old stuff I hadn't seen. Slightly less old stuff I hadn't seen. Culminating in getting really into "IT: Welcome to Derry", which I had *not* been interested in despite my love for Sai King's universe.

2 weeks to Christmas? Not one holiday movie yet.

This scene. Kirk at what he believes to be his lowest point. Regretting his retirement, not getting to know his son growing up, his ship in shambles, marooned in the center of a dead world.

"How do you feel?"
"Old."

Best acting of Shatner's career. Draws you closer in a way Kirk rarely did.
What's your favourite part of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan?

Apparently my "Discover" feed theme of the day is, "People discovering a frequently frowned upon older movie is fun, actually."

Sam Neill is great as Grant in 1 and 3, but he's more fun in 3.
I never watched Jurassic Park III until last night because I didnt really like The Lost World, and III wasn't even a Spielberg/Crichton project...so now, almost 25 years later, I'm finding out that it's actually good and fun??

Hmm.

Good point.
Someone else said it but it bears repeating:

"The Muppet Christmas Carol" is the best movie ever because Michael Caine treats the Muppets as fellow, human actors.

"Muppet Treasure Island" is the best movie ever because Tim Curry treats himself as a Muppet.

Seriously. If the Wachowski's hadn't made "Speed Racer", this movie might get my pick for "Most Slept on Movie of the 21st Century". (So far, obviously).

The casting is perfect, everyone is having a grand old time. The fly a tank. Just a lot of fun.
Watching a fun movie tonight.
This is one I don’t hear people talk about much for some reason.

But it’s so fn funnnnnn!!! 🔥🔥🔥

For the longest time, I would say that "A Christmas Carol" and "Treasure Island" were my favorite stories that I'd never actually read.

"Muppet Treasure Island" is the GOAT. Before "Michael Caine understood the assignment" season, let's acknoweldge TIM CURRY UNDERSTOOD THE FUCKING ASSIGNMENT.
"The Muppets should do an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice"
"we need Muppets Great Gatsby now!"
I love Muppets Christmas Carol, but i am begging you to watch another Muppet thing

The *real* answers for me are so obvious they don't bear mention. But beyond Han and Indy, it would have to be "Working Girl" and "The Fugitive". Handsome and charming but in entirely different ways from his icons.
Name your fav Harrison Ford film.

I like what he’s saying, but his gestures and posture and even that coat are all so “old man” coded.
“I am so bored by AI. One of the things I love about the theatre is AI can’t do it.”

Ethan Hawke is a dude 👌🏻

Two thoughts from my Christmas shopping:

1) Fuck the Grinch. Fuck the story, fuck the merch, fuck the IP.

2) I don’t think there has ever been a dumber more try-hard attempt at ugly-cute faux trend bullshit than “Labubu”.

it's 2025 and the gangly guy who appeared on a few seasons of The Office is now our only mirror to society
December 9, 2025 at 9:21 PM
And the worst part is, people who sing it for the season make it so slow and goddamn maudlin. Watch "The Sound of Music" again. It is not slow and it *is* *not* *maudlin*. It is an up tempo, joyous repudiation of fear. It is a *great* song.

It is not a fucking melancholy Christmas song.
People who deny "Die Hard" its Christmas movie status better deny that "My Favorite Things" is a Christmas - or even a "winter" - song. It mentions snow once. It does not mention Christmas at all. The closest it gets is "brown paper packages tied up with string", which is not a Christmas gift.
