Also, if you know of any DHS/ICE activity at or near a church or house of worship, feel free to reach out — we're tracking them.

Ridiculous "Who do stories actually belong to?" framing.

The Guardian buried the lede six feet and fifty paragraphs under, because the answer to that question is NOT "your psychiatrist's husband."
His novel was praised for giving a voice to the victims of Algeria’s brutal civil war. But one woman has accused Kamel Daoud of having stolen her story – and the ensuing legal battle has become about much more than literary ethics.
‘I felt betrayed, naked’: did a prize-winning novelist steal a woman’s life story?

So I carved off a lean chunk of the steak before cooking it,

And made sure to set it on the edge of my plate, after I was done.

And then to look the other way. To let her steal it.

I got her her favorite thing, for her birthday -

Crime.

Mid nineties, someone I know very well, worked at a book store in Bellevue. About once a month, right before close, Gates would come in and buy porn, specifically a magazine called "Barely Legal," which featured just turned 18 year olds who looked a lot younger.

Btw, they checked ID on porn sales.

These are perfect for holding your phone so you can read while eating avocado toast. I'm sure there are other use cases, but that is my main one. LOL

No.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

I'm still mad about the Chinese athlete who proposed to his girlfriend right after she won a medal (I think for diving) in 2016. I HATE it when men make a woman's accomplishment about them AND propose publicly to pressure them to accept. Same self centered garbage as this dude.

Do I dare to eat a peach?

In a poem of memorable lines, that's the one that sticks. Is it erotic? Has old age demolished Al's digestive system? Is he counting carbs? Pennies? Is it a metaphor for youth? What does it mean?? (Yes to all of them. With a simple noun and verb. That's why it's so good.)
Which lines of poetry live rent-free in your head?

PSA: if you find an animal and want to keep it, take it to animal control anyway. They will let you have right of first refusal for adoption if no owner is found. Once you sign the adoption papers, the animal is legally yours, no matter what happens later, plus they'll spay/neuter if needed.

I've been trying to teach myself to use the word"skilled" instead of "talented" when describing artists exactly because of this kind of bullshit. (Not entirely successfully-caught myself yesterday in an email I'd already sent).

Anyway, their opinion is bad, and they should feel bad about it.
