Mad respect to Ganz for telling these people to eat shit. If they want to come in the tent, they should have to quit their jobs as pundits first.

apologies if this comes off as doomerism, that's not my intention... if anything, I think we're seeing MAGA floundering because the agents of evil can't keep the agents of chaos and entropy in line

I just hadn't taken a good look at the abyss in a while, and whew do we have work ahead of us

there seem to be two specific classes of problem converging on our political situation: people who work hard towards specifically evil ends, and people who peddle chaos and entropy for personal ends

we don't get the problems we have without both, and we'll never fix them by only addressing one

I've been pretty disciplined in ignoring the loonies over the last decade as I've been focused on Elon Musk, and it's genuinely disturbing to see how much they've converged in ways that go beyond specific political commonalities

it's all just grooming people into particular flavors of mass delusion

even after a lifetime of eye rolling at the "fever swamps," it's shocking to catch up with where right wing loony culture has landed

it's no longer just about objectionable politics, not to minimize that aspect in the least, but a lot has become a firehose of free-floating viral mass psychosis

if you think this administration is mentally unwell, you should see the cognitive sewage that its political base is consuming... it's hard to look at the absolute psychosis being peddled by candace owens (larger audience than fox, cnn and msnbc combined) and not conclude that things only get crazier

fwiw, i think part of the reason that trump's in such a hysterical panic about greenland is because he's been told behind closed doors that this is a line he cannot cross by people who can actually enforce that.
it's not, like, ha-ha funny, but one of the funnier things about trump's greenland obsession is that it might be the one thing trump is doing that unites almost every single bloc in the republican coalition — against him. everyone hates this shit, everywhere.

sending deranged text messages to the prime ministers of european companies does not make this better for trump, based on what i've read in a few conservative subreddits and comment forums. people really, really fucking hate this shit, trump's completely cocooned from reality on it.

I agree with our friend @jamellebouie.net. There is no victory for them in Minneapolis. They know it. They are not acting like they think otherwise. There is nothing to do. If they pull out, it will get worse for them. If they call in the Army, it will get worse.

Rachel Maddow: The people, by and large, stand in opposition to Trump — his approval ratings have fallen through the floor & then down into the basement & then through the basement floor into the bedrock — He is just despised as a political leader in this country in almost unprecedented terms

I’m sorry I’m not single-handedly overthrowing the government. It’s just that I don’t own any weapons and I have a “thing” about dying. I go to the protests and do my best to help others but the people “on my side” have spent my entire life giving tanks to racist cops. They made video games about it

no non-US person i have met, particularly any european, has been capable of understanding the power of police in this country and the impunity with which they operate. there is nothing else like it, they have no frame of reference to comprehend it or understand how powerless we are against it

for better or worse i suspect if you asked Americans to make WW2 levels of sacrifices, you would not get it
people are already pissed about inflation with CPI coming down to Trump I levels

why on earth do people think a prolonged conflict would last and/or be popular
Like do we not remember how nuts the whole of American society went when ports got a bit crowded in 2021? That’s a tiny drop in the bucket compared to the effects here.

I just have zero patience for this anymore. I do not think it is a good idea to have someone with 28% approval be a leader in the party.

"he's the sin eater!" -- okay well he ate it. he's bloated with it. managed to invite bibi while doing so. you don't keep the sin eaters around. get a new one.

tbh the 25th Amendment really wasn't designed for this, Section 4 exists as basically solely for the "what if Jack survived Dallas as a vegetable" edge case.

the remedy here is impeachment (and also impeachment is a lower bar to clear)
It’s really too bad that Trump’s cabinet are all spineless worms or equally crazy because “the President has gone insane and is going to destroy the transatlantic alliance because they didn’t give him a Nobel Peace Prize” is kind of exactly the thing we have a 25th Amendment for
