I like books, but not just any books. I eschew disregard of the shared path etiquette. Too far east is west. Equal opportunist.

"Humanity now stands alone and alienated in the limitless universe. Bereft of parents and far from home, each of us has now to become a center unto himself or herself, and find the spiritual strength to hang unsupported in the void, drawing support from within not from without."

Also love the duality of man you get constantly with Mamdani.

"This inexperienced manchild has no idea how government works, he'll never be able to implement any of his ideas. Also, if we don't stop him on Tuesday then he'll unilaterally end capitalism and enact Sharia Law."
I don't think he'd bother reading it in the first place.
I already have the first two, but I would LOVE to re-read Austral.

I am retiring in May and my wife and I were interested in possibly setting up a home exchange with a group in Scotland during the migration in September. Can you point me to a club or a group, who might be interested? Thank you
That's why sensible people have kept their Fediverse accounts bubbling under (for when Bluesky goes the same way as Twitter).

A heated bird bath?
Now that's hosting your backyard birds in style...
Part of it may be the way it's processed post picking.
Hoping to see an overview of this move.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay was the lone starling on the empty bird-table (shadowed in the undergrowth by the glowing robin).

I like to think these ants fooled the researchers into thinking they were dead and once dumped in the trash they shook themselves off (but not too much, they are dirt ants after all) and scurried off to live their mysterious lives.

This is a genuinely heartwarming example of people having a love for wildlife and understanding that life is difficult for bears in suburban areas and that extra patience and understanding should be extended. Coexistence requires us to value life and not see nonhuman life as endlessly expendable.
The #FirstBirdOfMyDay today has been a long-legged glowing-red robin. They always make eye-contact.

Groundwater Depletion in a Drying World.
The Lancet Planetary Health Article.

At the end it says "Therefore, in the context of our drying planet, the only real solution will be a radical overhaul of current practices and strict management of the precious resource that remains"
Oh dear :(
Me too
Having fucking patents and copyright on FUCKING SEEDS.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
Good luck to the pro-pony campaigners and let's hope it's the Nat Trust that gets lost ASAP.
#FirstBirdOfMyDay was a very round dunnock waiting on the fence peering into the kitchen. He vanished once I'd put food out.

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

"Some people may perceive one category up from another one as only a "little" bit stronger. Like earthquake scales, the hurricane intensity scale increases logarithmically. That means a doubling of wind is not a doubling of damage. It actually results in a 256-fold increase in possible damage."
Writing is my coping mechanism when I am worried about a weather situation. As an unprecedented storm like #HurricaneMelissa approaches Jamaica, I feel helpless, so I write. My Tuesday morning thoughts on the storm.

Despite a very strong wind, I managed to salvage about fifteen minutes of exposure out of an hour and a half of tracking before it set, just enough for a last-minute farewell to Comet Lemmon, capturing it a second time after my first shot in early October. 🔭
