It is depraved to bring David Foster Wallace's "This is Water" into this dreck on a few counts.

I think he would have hated this shit. AI is dehumanizing, whereas This is Water asked us to humanize each other.

Then there's the whole AI has a penchant for encouraging people to commit suicide.

Went back to the history of the Sicilian Mafia to illustrate something obvious but worth stating explicitly: The Trump administration behaves like an organized crime syndicate running a protection racket, not a representative government www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Glad we've taught the Trump administration that starving 42 million people and disrupting air travel is how they get whatever they want, though. Good precedent with 3 years left in this nightmare.

On this eve of fifty Novembers
the winds still howl
the bell still tolls.

My breath turns heavy
as we drift into the long cold night.
The Fitzgerald stirs beneath.

I harbor their echoes
and cradle her steel.

My waves bear the sorrow
of all I have taken.

Regular reminder that Axios stories saying Dems are about to cave are likely sourced from GOP staffers trying to make it happen.
Doesn't mean it definitely won't happen. But it's like those NYT stories that Harvard is considering caving (they haven't). The anonymous source was trying to manifest it.

Just remembering that Dick Cheney secretly intervened in a dispute over the Klamath River in 2001--and caused the biggest fish die-off in US history, with ~77,000 fully grown adult salmon piled on the banks of the river.

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like “bet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

Don’t think ppl understand the terror the Feds are unleashing on the streets of LA right now. Roving patrols targeting vulnerable individuals. It’s horrible.

There’s no one coming to save us except ourselves.
The past week+ has been really intense in Los Angeles. We need all of the help, support, & attention we can get. Feds are literally roving the streets snatch & grabbing vulnerable individuals. It's horrific. We need to do more.
Feds are once again ruthlessly targeting ktown & adjacent areas. This is getting really intense. We need to do more.

I know people are skeptical of such claims, but let me tell you about the time I checked out a library book with some suspicious drip-looking stains and the next thing I know, I'm ordering a $100 bag of Jamaica Blue Mountain.

What dirty deed done dirt cheap have you been up to?

Today I went to the Food Lion and stood outside the entrance greeting customers with a heartfelt, "Let me get that door for you." Then I triggered the automatic door as I swung my arm with a grand gesture. It's an oldy but goody, I say.
