The bottom line: the scaffold–client model collapses because the scaffold cannot exist. And once you remove it, LLPS is no longer needed to explain condensates. Biology becomes simpler, not more mysterious.

it was a pleasure to write this spotlight article. Many questions remain about sensing of missegregated DNA by NoCut, but the @longchrom.bsky.social lab makes exciting progress. They put the helicases Srs2/PARI in the picture, suggesting new mechanisms for genome protection.

Interesting paper, although if I'm going to be nit-picky--SF3B1 does not have catalytic activity (it is a RNA binding protein/protein scaffold). In addition, potential non-splicing roles for SF3B1 have been found elsewhere, e.g.,in histone pre-mRNA maturation

RNA splicing is required for timely completion of abscission and is modulated by the abscission checkpoint
The abscission checkpoint pauses the progression of cytokinetic abscission at the intercellular bridge when various checkpoint-sustaining errors are sensed. A unique cytoplasmic organelle, the absciss...

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The idea is to decouple the journals from the review step. They’ll still exist, but they’ll need to add other value. They’ll highlight, curate, add new perspectives. If they do a good job they can still be prestigious (like Scientific American or Wired) (1.2) 👇
