trump got this reputation as being able to force the gop to do anything but...turns out that reputation was paper thin.

I mean, it was entirely based on trump being popular. he has only one move, which is bullying people. if that doesn't work, he's done.

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

like, I very much am on board with "don't compromise with the fascists" but if the fascists say, "you know you're right about everything" you're allowed to amplify that as a way to sow dissension and confusion among other fascists.

I think Mamdani getting trump to agree to fund New York while making no concessions in return was good.

I think Harris getting Cheney to denounce trump without offering concessions in return was good.

like, I feel like when you win you should take the win.

Now there’s a phenomenon where people who get bitten by a tick find themselves saying they fall into the other category of the vague, broadly-defined malaise conditions, because on that side you find community and validation and support — none of which conventional medicine provides.

They clearly had a host of different chronic issues, none of which the medical establishment would listen to or treat. Nearly all in this group were women. And the only validation they would get would be from… folks like RFK Jr. These are now somewhere around 80-90% of people who say they have Lyme.

I can attest to the small glimpse I had of this when I had Lyme disease. There’s a core group of folks (I was one) who had a tick bite that gave us a bacterial disease that cleared up after a while with medications. Unpleasant and sometimes severe, but defined. And then there was another cohort…
Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

I gave birth in a hospital (twice) and I would be dead if I hadn't but we also had entire written plans about what needed to happen if medical staff disrespected my choices when I wasn't in a position to advocate for myself.

This shit is real.

Free birth is eugenic *and* it exists not because birthing people want their babies to die, but because there are so many horror stories floating around about doctors disrespecting birthing people in what is one of the most vulnerable states any human can experience.

People love to pretend like pastel QAnon and RFK and anti-vaxx moms are just a function of bored privilege and ignorance, but the reality is much more complex.

These anti-medical birth movements cross class and race lines and exploit very real gendered trauma from medical sexism related to birth.

The Washington Post editorial board decided the Epstein files have “no public interest” before even seeing them. That’s a stunning position for any newsroom to take. Praising Clay Higgins as the lone ‘no’ vote, too? No wonder no one trusts legacy media. Absolutely disgusting.

The UK is considering a policy that would effectively segregate trans people from society. It would bar trans people from "single sex spaces" even when they use the facility of their sex assigned at birth.

This is a full on policy of segregation without even the benefit of separate facilities.
