One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

oh god. finally figured for the first time in our existence we'd try running some adverts. so messing about with Canva for the first time, and this thing is killing me, it's like every creative idea I've ever had has just leached out of my brain resulting in this. back to the drawing board I guess..

As an avid observer of algorithms I think I’ve figured out part of what happened here.

FB now explicitly looks for and directs posts you’re opposed to into your feed, to rage-bait engagement.

So now my posts are being actively boosted into people’s feeds of who reject climate. Ha! 😄😵‍💫
In 2018, Meta decided “clean energy” and “climate change” were politically sensitive topics, and demanded that I - a climate scientist - register as a political org to post and boost posts on them.

I refused, and my page has been shadow banned since then. For 7 years. Until this week, that is 😳

"A.i." is a tool of racists and fascists and liars. Do not use it and do not spread it. Abolish "A.i." from every space and org you have authority over - at the very least from your own computers and social media feeds.
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

Having been near the top of a large media corp., here's what I can tell you about the Disney decision re: OpenAI

-The execs have no idea what it means
-They have no idea how the tech "works"
-This decision is almost certainly due to direct, short-term gain for each person that approved it

One easy fix would be to eliminate categories based on genre or whatever “indie” means and instead get granular about craft (best level design, best world, best combat, etc) which would probably pose other problems but at least make for more interesting conversations and honor specific people

While living in Paris, for the "Fete de la Musique" (country-wide music festival/holiday), my band played a couple times at the western tip of the other island, Ile St-Louis, partially seen at the top of the map here. Such a great place to play music!
(until Sarkozy ruined it)
Detail of Île de la Cité, Le Marais, and Quartier latin from a map of Paris, 1550.

By the way, in last night’s RuneQuest game, one PC killed Harvar Ironfist in a Heroquest while another PC acting as Yelmalio was judging him for his crimes. Next: civil war in the Far Place! Woohoo!

“What is the conceptual nature of madness in a mythological context?”
That’s a question I got in last night’s RuneQuest game… I wouldn’t deal with that kind of bullshit if I GM’ed D&D 😅
