How do you read TTRPGs? There's at least a dozen ways (and nobody reads front to back page by page do they? That's WEIRD, right? ) - here's three of them I tend to do: burnafterrunningrpg.com/2026/02/12/t...
The Original Lonely Fun – How We Read TTRPGs
I’ve just finished reading Every Day I Read, a collection of essays by Korean author Hwang Bo-Reum where she breaks down the joy and approaches she has to reading fiction and non-fiction. Most of m…

I went through the thread and it's about 7 times more heated than it should be for some reason.

I think there's two perspectives clashing - game text as a recipe for an author-defined experience, or game text as an ingredient in a player-defined recipe.
If this is the case, then what possible reason is there to drop 30 bucks on a 250 page PDF?

Like...

I'm buying the game because of the synergy between the premise and the text. If you can disregard the latter, then the former is fucking free

Still thinking about this quote.
"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.
Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'
The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.

And now on to MEN IN BLACK, an extremely rewatchable movie that thankfully never became a franchise. Can you imagine if they made a bunch more of these and they fuckin sucked

Younger kid has been binge-watching the old House TV series lately, and given how much weird mental shit they attribute to syphilis, I’m thinking of all the billionaires who have had pedophile sex orgies together, and wondering whether it explains half of (gestures at the world) this shit

Fun fact about Man in the High Castle is that I was reading the book ages ago (back when ebook readers didn’t exist and I had to carry actual paper like a savage). When I had about 2 chapters left, I lost the book in the subway. Maybe I should buy it again and finish it at some point 😅
One of the brilliant aspects of THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE is that it shows how much fascists hate each other and pull the knives out.

That’s my free time gone.

Can I remind everyone to watch seasons 1-4 but skip the last episode of Season 4 - Deconstruction of Falling Stars - and go straight to the last episode of Season 5 - Sleeping in the Light.

Than leave it for a year.

You’ll thank me.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

For Valentine’s Day, I’m running a CoC scenario set in 1665 colonial French Canada: you play as one of the King’s Daughters, coming to the colonies to find a husband! Horrible things happen, including hopefully my players having to wear a bonnet and a ring if, you know, Temu delivers in time.

Over on Facebook there's lately been a barrage of extremely long best-designer posts that contain extensive histories of the designers. A few of the designers have said they're great.

But the one I went over had incorrect details and implied things that weren't right.

Yes, it was AI slop.

🧵1
I've written on this a bit, the point is that ai can make a simulacrum of historical knowledge at the behest of some very malicious actors, and then it can propagate that vision ad infinitum and tirelessly.

The funny thing is that I legit think the best way to tear down any pro-genAI argument is to start with “sure let’s assume the hype is real” and extrapolate where that leads us. It only leads to super shitty places as far as I can tell.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.
