per the story, the “Abolish ICE is bad” dude is also a “former Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection official”
The author of a controversial memo from centrist think tank Searchlight telling Democrats to abandon the slogan “Abolish ICE” is a senior advisor for WestExec, a D.C. shadow lobbyist for corporations in the defense, surveillance, and immigration enforcement industries.

It has come to my attention that there are Leftists on God’s green earth who haven’t seen the television program Leverage. My friends. My Leftist friends. You must watch this program. It is a heist and they steal capitalism.

I lived in a very cold (real temp -27, feels like -42) town for a year. I am not an expert! But I wore Muck boots and they worked.
GET GOOD BOOTS. generic "snow" boots will do nothing for you. You want something waterproof with a temp rating. These will not be cute, but you will keep your toes.

Get Yaktrax. They will quite literally save your ass.

Get chemical hand and toe warmers. They will save your extremities.

I mean why California? Can New York get in on this offer?
More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trump’s attempt to take Greenland.

They say they will provide Californians with “rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”

I'm saying right now, if the Ds run another milquetoast "moderate," they're going to lose again, and somehow the takeaway will be that they weren't far-right enough. I am begging "moderates" to watch Zohran's first video and slink into the shadows in shame.
How is there still discourse about a potential presidential run for a milksop with the personality of a novelty toilet brush?

Idk if y’all know this but you can take ANY electrical device to Best Buy for recycling. Doesn’t have to be related to Best Buy in any way. Coffee pot? Vacuum? Weed whacked? They will recycle anything.

Head ablaze, I ran indoors with my friend. I put out the sparking flames with my hands. We stood, uncertain about the future, not ready to face death yet, hands black with burned hair.
Dreamed a friend were infected, waiting in a house for the end, during a pandemic of a disease that made people burn up in daylight like vampires. We sat at dawn in a courtyard; the first rays of the sun hit my head, which lit up like a giant sparkler. I could feel the heat & light, but no pain.

Molly's being characteristically thoughtful. I'll be more of an asshole: THE AI COMPANIES HAVE USED WIKIPEDIA'S SHIT FOR YEARS. It costs millions of fucking dollars in infrastructure to serve up content to these companies. Should Wikipedia subsidize them? No? Then it's *good* they're getting paid!
I think people are erroneously interpreting the headline to mean that the Wikimedia Foundation is embracing AI for purposes like generating encyclopedia content, or are providing AI companies with more training data than they were already scraping.

HE SAID THE THING
ICE must be abolished. It has become a lawless, rogue agency. Federal law enforcement agencies must follow the law, if they're going to have any credibility enforcing it.

We are demanding justice for Renee Good and the prosecution of ICE agent Jonathan Ross for her murder.

This is why people use social media as a news source, and also why information literacy is so hard to teach right now. How can I tell students what sources to trust, when they can see for themselves that the media doesn't cover the actual news?

This a fascinating archive, and revealing its contents is a public service. But I worry for the safety of those who retrieved this archive for us. And I hope the NYT et al who report on this archive will defend the freedoms of those who made this reporting possible.
After ICE agents shot people in Minneapolis tonight, a crowd faced them down and eventually chased them away, despite federal mercenaries and police shooting a tremendous amount of tear gas.

ICE agents abandoned vehicles in the area, containing IDs, paperwork, license plates, and operational plans.

Renee Good could have been Charles Manson and ICE still shouldn't have murdered her.

Pretending her "ties" to anything are worthy of investigation privileges the Trump regime's lie that there might be a reason why it was OK to shoot her.

A local business owner recently referred to me as R's "friend," and I don't think it's possible to convey to straight people the absolute bone-chilling terror that those words inspire. It sounds like casual homophobia. It is a threat.
Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

I appreciate this from @us.theconversation.com by Jonathan Paul.

However, I think it’s making a mistake I commonly hear geologists make with regards to current events.

I have a hunch that this mistake is one of the reasons geology programs are struggling 🧵🛠️🪨🧪

This is the point. They are using an immigraiton system that has long dehumanized people, that has long operated with a lack of due process, to create state police force, whose victims are by definition “domestic terrorists,” who have license to kill at will. This isn’t a mistake. It’s the point.
