Boss, we’ve got a problem. Users don’t want this stuff! They keep wanting to turn it off, even when we keep turning it back on!

As someone who was providing direct care to COVID patients from the start of the pandemic, but couldn’t get tested for almost 8 months, this was particularly infuriating
5. KENT arrived at UVA just before the COVID pandemic. Just after he started, he
left for a vacation with his family to the Caribbean for two weeks. When he returned, and once
there were finally limited tests for COVID available, KENT dictated that his family and close friends be tested routinely for the virus, coupling the results of the testing with fake medical records so as to hide the identity of those being tested, and, instead of using the limited tests on staff and physicians who were still treating patients through COVID and the patients who were arriving at the hospital with COVID-type symptoms, KENT prioritized testing on the University's football
players.

One of the wildest issues AI creates is that it makes people who shouldn't do things they don't understand, do those exact things believing they understand.

guy in a legal advice reddit wants to know how to get out of paying google the money he owes them after vibe coding one of his apps into running 40 times a second for several days straight, but says it's not his fault bc they should have stopped him by making it harder to use

Google want to charge me 7 k for API access what can I do as they are denying appeals
Debt & Money
Hi there and thanks for reading.
I tried to keep this brief and just ended up rambling on trying to get as much in as possible so here is my edited hopefully a lot smaller problem.
Google are charging me 7k for a mistake that I told them about within a day, the bill went from about £45 to 16k in a day! when I asked for help I was told "dont worry well reset it as a one off, you'll need to put measures in place and ill guide you through those after you agree" So i did he then said "I will monitor it for a further 24 - 48 hours and then tell you how to put the measures in place. " Less than 24 hours later the bill was now 23k and I found out how to stop it myself. Then came the long back and forth to get it reset.
Fast forward 5 months they have finally given me a 20k credit but with VAT the total bill at the time of the credit was 27k
The 20k would have cleared the costs at the time of making them aware they claim its both our responsibilities to monitor costs I feel I did that by contacting them as soon as I saw the irregularity.
I asked them to reconsider they said no the appeal has said that is their final offer so 1 now owe 7k.
Is there anything I can do here from a legal standpoint. I don't have 7k I barely have £45.
Thanks for reading I am in England if it helps. Intentional or not, OP used either 36k (16 + 20) or 43k (16 + 27) of API credit. Obviously what API it is matters, but with google maps, 16k would equate to ten million pulls. Or two hundred thousand Gemini 2.5 calls with 1000 token input and 5k token output.
Those aren't numbers that something running correctly should run up for any average person or company. So either google screwed up something (which is unlikely that it would only happen to one person in the entire network) or OP has some app or something which isn't running properly and is sending too much to the API.
Edit: It was OP's app, polling google maps nearly 40 times a second for days.

tom_watts • 3d
According to other posts he ended up polling Google maps direction API 2300 times per minute for a few days. Looks like a combination of OP not knowing coding and asking ChatGPT to do it for him, and potentially Google's backend doing something weird in interpreting the janky code.

Even if that was the case and it wasn't the sign up process doesn't have the documentation I refer to.
Funnily enough though asking an LLM to help me find it still took some digging after it did.
If you work in the field im sure its easy but those just tinkering or learning not so much.
If google didnt want people like me using it they could make it far harder to do so, they could have hard limits in place for sole users to prevent stuff like this and so many other things.
Should they well clearly they don't think so and no doubt you agree that doesn't make it the right opinion it just makes it yours.

Buried in Michigan's antiporn bill is a provision to effectively outlaw "circumvention tools," such as VPNs.

Mark my words: legislators will increasingly leverage porn panic to restrict or ban VPNs, and to limit internet privacy far beyond adult sites.
Experts raise privacy concerns over Michigan bill targeting pornography and VPNs
Rep. Josh Schriver, the bill’s sponsor, says the law is designed to target only producers and distributors of pornography, not everyday internet users.

Evidence that AI is accelerating our economy!

The phrase "the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent" is no longer true, because of the incredible rate at which this nonsense is burning money.

The correction is already upon us, it's just not evenly distributed.

Yeah, it makes a lot of sense that it's the Governor AND the Mayor AND the Chief of Police AND the Superintendent of the Highway Patrol who are all lying.

And let's not forget the tons of Portlanders, news reporters, judges, etc. All lying.

Yep. Makes total sense.

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

Doug Wilson co-authored a (plagiarized) book that defended the institution of slavery *as it was practiced in the antebellum South*. This is how Douthat introduced the subject while providing him with the NYT's platform:
Douthat: So, just to take a related example, one of the controversies of many that you’ve been mixed up in has to do with slavery, and whether slavery is absolutely forbidden by the Bible, absolutely forbidden to Christians, or whether it is critiqued, but allowed for.

Wilson: Right.

Douthat: And you think it is critiqued, but allowed for.

Wilson: Right.

Douthat: On this, on a straightforward reading of the New Testament, I would agree with you. I would say, pretty clearly, there is a pretty clear path from the message of the Bible to the abolition of slavery. But there is no moment in the New Testament when Jesus insists on the manumission of slaves.

Wilson: Right.

Finally we have found the method to glitch out the kneejerk means testers.

What the fuck do you mean "wealthy new yorkers who take the bus??"
kendrawrites.com
Lower income New Yorkers are more likely to ride the bus s. Also the house he used to live in before he split with Sandra Lee is worth 1.8 million dollars (third link) and had five bedrooms and six bathrooms and at 5,000 sqft meets the historical definition of a mansion
.
@ZohranKMamdani
’s “plan” provides no relief for working families who take the subway, and unnecessary benefits to wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus and can afford the fare.

I focus on working families, while
@ZohranKMamdani
the mansion boy focuses on helping the rich.
