the Pope could do the funniest possible thing to J.D. Vance
BREAKING: After ICE refuses to allow detained migrants to receive the Eucharist, Pope Leo calls on Trump and Vance to respect migrants‘ dignity and religious liberty.

“They must allow ministers to assist with their needs. They've been separated from their families and no one knows what happens.”

this shit right here is wrecker shit, as much as wrecker shit as any online leftist has done, if not more so. no wonder so many people are repulsed by anyone (rightly) saying 'vote blue no matter who', the most powerful elected Dem in the nation won't do it! it undermines the whole coalition! jfc

About 370 days ago journalists would have been able to unequivocally call Lauren Boebert’s costume racist, because it is. I can see a lot of editors’ stances on that have changed since the last election.

Another measure of our wildly illegal administration. The law is short and uncomplicated, just over one page. It's entire purpose is to reassure federal employees they will be paid. There is nothing in the law that distinguishes between furloughed employees, or employees required to work.
Breaking news: The Trump administration is sending messages to federal staff suggesting only those who are working during the government shutdown will be paid when it ends, despite a 2019 law that guarantees pay to furloughed employees, too.
Administration hints furloughed workers may not be paid after shutdown
Agencies are sending messages indicating that workers who are on the job will be paid when the government reopens — with no mention of those on furlough, despite a 2019 law protecting their wages.

we have a dysfunctional immigration politics because there's this large population that are sorta-kinda are allowed to be here, maybe, if they keep their heads down, and we debate about how nice we should treat them based on a constantly shifting set of nebulous criteria. it's calvinball from hell.

Point of fact: we don’t know the sandwich had mustard and onions. We just know the agent testified he smelled mustard and onions.

This may seem like a minor difference to you, but the guy is almost certainly lying.
What a fucking coward. Many more Californians than live in his entire state are prepared to vote to defend our fucking democracy but this asshole can't get it together to understand the god damned stakes of the moment.
MD Senate Prez Bill Ferguson still determined to stand in the way of redistricting:

"This is an unbalanced risk reward calculation. It is why there is overwhelming concern about MD joining the mid-cycle redistricting wars."

This is an important point about the whole debate. "The Democratic Party" isn't really a political party that can make centralized decisions because that's not the US system. It's a ballot label. The party org and leadership are functionally powerless over who gets nominated and what they run on.
I agree that national party images and policy matters. What continues to elude me is your proposal on how to enforce a shared policy across state level parties (especially major ones) or how you're going to ensure that minor Democrats don't set the image of the national party.
My argument is super simple, it’s that according to Elliott Morris’s data:

1. Moderates do better on average

2. National party images are increasingly important

Morris is a smart guy and Democrats should follow his advice and moderate their national image.

Trump says the SNAP money that he’s been ordered by a court to release won’t be released until the government shutdown ends.

A more pertinent question: Why might one mayor in one city be a political liability for national Democrats, while the president, VP, various governors, and members of Congress are not for the national Republicans, let alone any GOP mayor?

How did that come to be? Who makes that happen?

It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*

The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

"Hott—shockingly— answered 'No' when asked if he agreed 'agree that it's unconstitutional to arrest people for being opposed to Midway Blitz?' Similarly, Bovino testified that he has instructed his officers to arrest protesters who make hyperbolic comments in the heat of political demonstrations"
Overnight court filings seem to be giving us a peek at what U.S. Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino said in his deposition so far (it apparently continues today):

Absolutely. Violent political threats are political violence, both legally & practically. They serve the same purpose and they have similar effects, esp in combination with a political context that has lots of salient violent political acts, which makes the threats feel more credible.
even if it's a hoax, I feel like the mere threat of bombing a polling place is political violence
Across New Jersey, bomb threats at multiple polling locations have prompted closures and relocations today
