Q: Why was the person responsible for the Blackwater fish kill never found?

A: it wasn’t anybody’s job.

I talked to the heads of all the agencies involved in the investigation, about why the biggest pollution event in Irish history fell between the cracks.

Very good piece, Philip, but also very dispiriting. I have good time for Timmy Dooley, but his answers this morning were pure waffle. If government wanted legislation done, it would be done.

While we approve more data centres, expand aviation and long-finger tackling systems solutions in agriculture, construction and transport - we see our ability to decarbonise and reduce emissions decline. Government burying the long-term consequences for people #Spéirghorm www.rte.ie/news/busines...
Ireland significantly off track on 2030 climate targets
Ireland has made progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) but the rate of reduction remains insufficient to meet the targets established.

This is not what leadership looks like. Climate change is having serious impacts in the here and now. The effects for future generations will be devastating.

The challenge is immense. We need leaders who communicate honestly and bring the people with them. This isn't it.

Ireland could build a new children's hospital every three years for the cost of the hospitality VAT reduction.

We could build a Galway sized luas system every year for the same cost

We'll invest less in the National Grid between now and 2030, than we will in €18 sandwiches in 2026

Not sure people realize how INSANELY DRAINING data centers will be on our planet.

If you imagine data centers as their own country, they'll rank fourth in global electricity use by 2035 — outranked only by China, India, and the U.S.

Read this in @bloomberg.com👇

AI Data Centers Are Sending Power Bills Soaring
Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers. That’s being passed on to customers.

Nothing in the Budget to advance a Public Model of Childcare.
Big reforms like this take time, need to be supported through each budget. The Government is failing to progress this vital reform that will address affordability and capacity.

I still can't believe that they're doing this. Giving a massive VAT tax break that'll do very little for small cafés and restaurants, while giving millions to big chains.

Weak, unfocused governance. They're too comfortable chucking out our tax money.
greenpartyie.bsky.social
It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the #VAT cut to hospitality.

For that kind of money you could:

If they do this to the world's most renowned activist, what do they do to people we will never hear of? The EU must cut all ties with the government who orchestrates this depravity.

FF/FG: “There’s a €250m gap in funding public transport.”

We say it’s a gap in ambition.

When we should be pressing the gas on public transport, Govt. are hitting reverse.

Eamon would have been outstanding. Unfortunately, with only two nominations available from Green parliamentarians, it wasn't going to happen.
marcocathasaigh.bsky.social
He would have made an outstanding president, but I'm afraid he'd not have had a snowball's chance of winning. The hatchet job on that man's reputation is something else - an incredibly capable and empathetic person.

Well I certainly didn't expect solar output record to be broken on September Equinox in Ireland!
greencollective.io
🚨 A new high for Irish solar today as output exceeds 900MW for the first time, beating the previous high of 864MW set in July.

It seems to have peaked at 943MW at 12.45pm, equivalent to approx. 19% of all-island electricity demand at that time ☀️

More to follow!
A stacked area chart of the electricity generation mix on the island of Ireland. There are eight fuel types: pumped storage, biomass, waste-to-energy, hydro, solar, wind, oil, and gas. There is also a black line showing electricity demand.

Footnote reads: All-island figures. Excludes domestic solar. Source: EirGrid, SEMO

Today's "nitrogen from shit is not really nitrogen" chimes with the farm lobby push for "methane from cows is not really methane".

After climate denial, we now have also chemistry denial.
