It's interesting to think about when there's no clear answer. Even on a matchup level —setting the 13 AB sample aside— Carpenter is just a nightmare matchup for Kirby based on what pitches he handles and doesn't handle. I don't think there's a single "good" decision Dan Wilson could've made there.

It's a no-win situation. Carpenter *owns* Kirby lol. The risk-reward of allowing that matchup with in-game familiarity also mattering is pretty wild. What do you gain after that? Your SP the third time through. Idk.

If Speier doesn't groove one we're probably not talking about this either.
