This is my hometown in the pfp. I immigrated to the US in 97. Gen X, mother to two millennials. I now have two cats! One was my son's but now he's all mine. I write code for a living. Hope for my country of birth to lose the war to 🇺🇦 soon.

I block tankies and the tankie-adjacent individuals who try to Westsplain my birth country and my childhood to me. If this is you, please feel free to block me first. We have nothing to say to each other.
In 1991, my turn somehow came up to be assigned an apartment (yay). It was in an old building and in a bad neighborhood, and everyone ahead of me on the list had said no. But I was getting married later that year. I wasn't about to say no.

I had no furniture though.

Yep. I've been saying it on here that it was Scandinavian-type socialism for the few on top, feudalism for the rest.

You had to know the right people to be able to buy clothes ffs, or to furnish your apartment. People lived in absolutely wild survival mode.

There were two inflatable penii at my No Kings. No arrests were made. Anyway, I thought having a pink penis makes you invincible to law enforcement and also great management material? Why was this grandma arrested instead of promoted
New bodycam video shows a Fairhope police colonel arresting a 61 yr old grandmother in an inflatable penis costume during an Oct. 18 protest.

He tells her the outfit is not welcome in a town with values. Her lawyers say the footage proves her arrest violated her First Amendment rights.

For your morning feed cleanser*, a love poem. A friend** wrote this 15y ago while trying to woo me.

A moth flew free above the trees
Wishing he could be a honeybee

He was amazed by the bright, shiny things
But longed to touch the nectar of the flower that he sees

This son and I were talking the other day and he said he remembered the first experience that led to his eventual decision to do standup. He's been doing it on and off since age 18, and is pretty good.

"One time in preschool, I made a joke during class, and everybody laughed. That made me realize
First time I got sandwiched was by my son's preschool. They called me in. Sat me down. Said "(son) is a very happy boy and a natural leader" I was "aw shucks" and they went on to say "so when he talks in class, everyone listens to him instead of to the teacher, WE NEED YOU TO MAKE HIM SHUT UP"

Reminded of that one time when a coworker came back to the office after a week off for his first baby being born. Everyone was giving him unsolicited advice of raising babies, then a PM whose kids were in their late teens, said "and make sure you install life 360"
How far gone as a people are we that watching a baby on a baby monitor is an intimate moment between mother and child?

Just had someone in my replies resurrect a 2yo discussion about which regime was worse, Stalin's or Hitler's.

Both were worse. I'm not here to discuss the pros and cons of the bouquet, nose, legs, and aftertaste of one pile of shit over another. Both are shit.

It is widely known that people do their best work when they put in 100+ hour weeks and are not allowed to see their family or a doctor.

The Orb will be the best orb that ever orbed and will definitely not accidentally blind you while scanning your iris.
“The Sam Altman-founded company behind the ‘Orb,’ a volleyball-sized metal sphere that scans irises to prove people's humanity, had a message for employees: work weekends and ignore anything outside your job — for the good of humanity.”
Sam Altman's eye-scanning Orb startup told workers not to care about anything outside work
Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania said that "if you should care about something else, and if you want something else, you should just not be here."

"These shtetl dwellers were too dirty and who even knows what diseases they carried with them. They simply had to be cleaned and disinfected. Sadly, they were so used to being disease-ridden and living in dirt that their bodies repelled any attempts to sanitize them and they dropped dead."

Everyone around you measures things in feet, inches, cups, quarts, pounds and ounces, but you grew up using the metric system like most of the planet?

Problematic gauge gap
Your blocking keeps putting one of the dancers in the orchestra pit?

Problematic stage gap
Your thanksgiving stuffing doesn’t taste right?

Problematic sage gap.

Cuteness overload warning!

I took my kids to the animal shelter for the first time. We were walking around, and the two-year-old was saying stuff like, 'Cats go meow,' and, 'That cat sees me.' Then, as soon as his eyes met with this kitten’s, he just blurted out, 'Hello, I love you.'

Lemme tell you a story about my late, great, extremely submissive dog Sparky. One time my then preteen son and i took sparky to a dog park. There, a bigger dog took a liking to sparky and kept following him around the park and humping him. I tried to reason with the dog, pull him off even, no dice

Ditched it this year for freetaxusa. My reason for switching was the prices on TT being out of control. Little did I know about there being a second, even more important, reason
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

A friend sent me a link to his FB post with this photo of a literary magazine article that made waves when it came out (BG to follow in a 🧵).

We can do the funniest thing next summer.

Do we want to demonstrate the electoral unviability of white nationalism by going full white nationalist and somehow winning because of it? DO WE?
this is just a wild thing to tweet a week after democrats won a statewide in Georgia by 20 points. completely divorced from the current electoral environment

Everybody's assuming some kind of physical condition behind the hoarseness, but put yourself in his shoes for a minute. Imagine that, anytime you're in front of a mirror, there's a person in it who's so stupid, you just have to shout at them
Q: Your voice sounds a little rough. Are you feeling all right?

Trump: I feel great. I was shouting at people because they were stupid. I straightened it out, but I blew my stack at these people.

Q: Well, it sounds like there's a follow up there

Trump: I thought you said there was a polyp

To reuse the phrase I've seen redditors use frequently, they couldn't waterboard this out of me.

Def will try to read this book when library e-copies are available. Imagine getting high and reading this on a gloomy winter evening, cackling like a maniac as you make more hot chocolate.

i'd say it did. the public put a group of thieves, vandals and extremists in office last november and they promptly went about destroying everything that might work to limit their ability to loot, steal and inflicting pain on the people they hate
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

Your Monday morning reminder that Hitler didn't start with the camps.

Can't find my great-aunt's story I posted here long ago so here it is again.

She was the youngest of 6 or 7, only one still living w her elderly parents at age 19.

German army came to their village in 1941. 1/
I remain skeptical of the idea that you should wait until the stage that a fascist authoritarian project is completed before you can say things like 'I love Hitler' and 'blood and soil' or 'the international jewry' or 'criminal illegal aliens eat your pets' are 'fascist.'

My phone didn't have a front-facing camera that I knew of. Sent him my best attempt

"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.
