reminds me of a friend who explained why recent years have felt so weird to so many millennials here and it’s because “we went into the pandemic young people and came out of it old”
I spoke to a woman at the protest in minneapolis and she explained she wanted to be there in part because "i was a kid when george floyd got killed" and i nearly dropped my recorder

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Perry: Abolish ICE? How about DHS altogether.
"We have models for how to structure federal immigration oversight that doesn't rely on an unaccountable masked secret police force running rampant in our streets," David M. Perry writes.

ICE's atrocities have even cracked the professional veneer on LinkedIn.

Unfortunately, some of those responses are "we need more precise language than 'immigrant' to distinguish refugees and entrepreneurs."

No. We don't. We are all in the same boat. Anything they can do to them, they can do to us.

When you think of health and safety laws and human rights laws as “obstructive bureaucracy”, stopping you being as vicious and damaging as you want to be to immigrants - who you encourage voters to blame for your own abject failures - you’ve become a monster. Let’s hope it ends up devouring itself.

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

the main thing is they’re extremely easy to read which I think is a huge factor in their mass appeal - dan brown-esque

Also, in pushing for accountability, Dems would do well to make it clear that there will be thorough investigations and prosecutions the minute they control the DOJ again, and that cooperation now, through whistleblower declarations and leaks, will mitigate legal consequences later.
The past week shows this is not a regime with the stomach for mass violence against US citizens.

That will also weigh heavily on security forces' calculus regarding unlawful orders moving forward.

All political figures of conscience must now push for accountability, and transparency in the camps.

That’s actually not true in Manchester’s case. Some of Manchesters regen happened under the last Labour govt but the really striking stuff happened under the Tories with Labour in charge locally. Recent stuff is a footnote so far
