This is such a good - important - piece.

In 2009, I sat in an Amzn room full of F500 CTOs on a tour, and listened to Bezos explain that his goal was to be The Market. Capital T, capital M. For everything.

And no one believed him. Most still don't.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

I'm only a little younger than @billmckibben.bsky.social &, like his hypothesis of Pope Leo in this beautiful, heartbreaking piece, I left the US decades ago & have watched it change from afar

This essay had me in tears, mainly because Bill writing it means it's not over yet. They haven't won. Yet

Q: “Are you affirming you think Trump is a fascist?”

TRUMP: “That’s ok, you can just say yes.”

Cas Mudde spells out what has become largely the consensus among researchers: moving right on immigration will not weaken the far right nor strengthen social democracy. If your reaction is "but in Denmark" please at least familiarize yourself with Danish politics

The ‘Danish model’ is the darling of centre-left parties like Labour. The problem is, it doesn’t even work in Denmark | Cas Mudde
This week’s local elections are the latest reminder that when social democrats move rightwards, they’re making a mistake, says academic and author Cas Mudde

NEW: For months, my colleagues and I dug into YouTube's conservative airwaves and found a flourishing network of host-read ads on right-leaning podcasts. This phenomenon has enriched hosts, YouTube, and businesses that use ideology to sell. bloom.bg/3Kaio9w

The same is true for everyone who swear their oath.

Hope that clears things up.

The palpable sense of nostalgia and longing the headline conveys is a choice.

If unintentional, it's incompetent. If intentional, it's unconscionable.

Either way, it's grounds for dismissal for any editor.
