When you think of health and safety laws and human rights laws as “obstructive bureaucracy”, stopping you being as vicious and damaging as you want to be to immigrants - who you encourage voters to blame for your own abject failures - you’ve become a monster. Let’s hope it ends up devouring itself.

That’s actually not true in Manchester’s case. Some of Manchesters regen happened under the last Labour govt but the really striking stuff happened under the Tories with Labour in charge locally. Recent stuff is a footnote so far
