There are centripetal forces of identity forces pulling Canada together, and centrifugal forces of identity pushing us apart. Smith has been playing with the Alberta version of latter as if they can easily controlled, easily reasoned away and extinguished. It may not be that easy👇
This gets at the fundamentally flawed approach of the federal government: they are trying to find a policy solution to an identity problem.

It is part of the polarized, populist identity to be opposed to an Ottawa and Liberal Canada are not them. No policy will change that, as TMX revealed.

Another good reminder to apply for my "what if I have to flee North America all of a sudden" passport.
More saber rattling.

There are good reasons that the U.S. Constitution does not leave the decision on whether to go to war to the whims of one man.

❗️Prime Minister of Poland Tusk: I wish to remind our allies that NATO was created to defend the West against the Soviet aggression, that is against Russia. And its foundation was solidarity, not selfish interests. I hope that nothing has changed.

Folks, I hate to tell you: the funding formula does not determine how much money the sector gets. The legislature, via the budget, does that. The funding formula determines how that money is divided up. A new funding formula, on it's own, will not change anything re: system starvation.
Ontario weighing changes to formula that funds colleges, universities | Globalnews.ca
The province's public colleges and universities have endured two years of cuts and layoffs since a federal cap on the number of international students was introduced.

Very interesting discussion in this piece, but any mechanism to 'regulate' the truth will inevitably be turned against the truth - the loonies will take advantage of recalls, the wrong person in charge of government will call facts 'fake news'. Indeed, this is precisely what we see in the US.
I wrote about a novel approach to tackling misinformation currently being discussed in Wales--and which some say Canada should try, too. What if we made a rule so politicians couldn't lie? www.thestar.com/politics/fed...
Is it time to make it illegal for politicians to lie to us?
That’s the question currently on the table in Wales, which has just released a draft of the “globally pioneering” sanctions for politicians.

The funniest part about this ad is that they clearly had to use half sheets of plywood to fit into the maverick comfortably. Standard Maverick bed size is 4.5 feet while they loaded the car with full 4x8s. Trucks have become much bigger but also less useful.

Shawn is of course right.

And I hate this dumbass stunt so much. Nobody is ever bringing home 40 sheets of plywood in their personal vehicle. This is a fantasy for people who have never dealt with construction.

90% of things you’d buy for a house renovation fit comfortably in that car.

It’s clear that the primary interest of the US in “peace negotiations” is to create opportunities for Trump, Witkoff, their family members, business partners and cronies to make billions from business deals with Russia, and Ukraine is just the annoying nuisance in the way.
