Hello new people! I'm not super interesting, but I do write some literary criticism/analysis; info, short essays, and copies of as many published works as I'm allowed to hand out are at shilohcarroll.wordpress.com. I'm working on some fiction, too, and I'll post here if/when that takes off. 💜

"achillean" always amuses me as a descriptor because does it mean books about gay men being gay or does it mean more like oh you shot me in the leg you shot me in the fucking leg you fuck why would you do that, that's my goddamn ankle, my one weak spot, now I'm going to die you asshole

*banging pots and pans together* QUEER SCIFI WITH LIKE ROBOTS AND SHIT. I've read it, it's very good. And sad. But good.

My marketing is at about the same level as Alexis', clearly

I've been sitting on this blog post since August, but I finally posted yesterday about my plan to publish my gay sci-fi book: alexisamesbooks.com/2025/10/10/a.... I'd like to say that my marketing in the coming months will be better than this but tbh that's probably a lie. #WritingCommunity #SFF

Are things good right now? No. But are there signs of better days ahead? Also no. Still, we know that it's all going to hold together one way or another, that we'll emerge from this better than we were, right? Yeah, no, probably not.

you’d think the “AI can replace all artists and writers” people would have noticed that no one gives a shit about watching computers compete with one another, and yet

or chess: people play chess, they watch other people play chess, it's even getting a little popular to do. computers are infinitely better than humans at chess. nobody watches computer chess.

The JADE CITY ebook is an Amazon Prime Day deal today (Tuesday) for a ludicrously low $2.99 which is much less than what I paid for boba tea yesterday so if you still haven't jumped on the Green Bone Saga bandwagon, this is your sign👇

We also were caring for an elderly, sick cat until just a couple weeks ago and we're still sorting out what's normal and what was part of her routine or infrastructure. I'm sorry for your loss

The new writer scam hotness is the email that purports to be from a book club that meets on Zoom, who invites you to discuss [title of yours plucked from an AI database], and who needs you to pay a "small reservation fee" to participate. Gotten three just today. Fuck that noise, plonk it into spam.

Good morning! Remember to hang in there—things are getting better even if you can't see it today. I know this because it once took twelve popes to ban striped clothing.

Newsletter: This is The Case Against Generative AI, a comprehensive analysis of a financial collapse built on myths I’ll dispel, the markets’ unhealthy obsession with NVIDIA's growth, and the fact that there is not enough money in the world to fund OpenAI.

Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE.

If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!

PSA: If you're an author & you get a chatty email from a marketer, or book club that praises your book & bashes Amazon's algo before offering to 'help', usually with 500 to 10,000 reviewers, it's just a ChatGPT automated marketing scam.

It's the new Nigerian prince email, brought to you by 'AI' 🙄.

I know this is a waste of time, but of anyone in the Bay Area can take on a cat, this ~5 month boy I trapped for TNR turned out to be way friendlier than I thought and also has a limp that does not pain him but can't be easily fixed.

Does anyone have access to the article below? My ILL librarian is struggling.

Bruce-Mitford, R.L.S. "The Sutton Hoo Ship-Burial." Nature, vol. 165, 1950, pp. 339-341.

Thanks!
