Seeing as police abolition is back in the news, I have to be shameless and share my rule of law/old fashioned lib argument for taking the idea seriously (and for recruiting all the anti-administrative-law libertarians to the team). Long law review article from a couple years ago gowder.io/iclu.pdf

The life and joy must be squeezed out thoroughly from the lawyer before the sweet nectar of appellate practice can be offered.

We have three students who have been offered interviews DURING EXAMS. My 1L year, there was a moratorium on any contact from firms from reading week until after exams, and we were asked to report firms who had contacted us during that window. I guess that, like any semblance of decency, is dead.
Every part of what this describes ("jumbo" offers, recruiting for 2L in the first weeks of 1L, etc) is terrible.
The biggest law firms’ intensive recruiting of first-year students has spread to smaller rivals, with some making offers even before first-semester grades are in.

Woke up with my contacts glued to my eyeballs and my dog's face right on top of my face. She and I are ready to see the taillights of this semester.

There's a certain je nais se quois for the special agent vibe.

Look 18, the hair, the dead soulless eyes, the suspicious lack of facial hair, the suspicious preference for shirts with collars, sounding like Ned Flanders if he was a bass.

Something close to the *very* first thing the son of @akivamcohen.bsky.social said to me upon first meeting was "excuse me, sir, but you look like a cop."

This is the vibe we’re trying to cultivate around here.
Let the record show I can and will do any of these with a few beers and a gentle nudge.
My current one depends on the crowd: if it’s Millennial and Gen X turbo nerds, I bust out either Cruel Angel’s Thesis or The Real Folk Blues. Otherwise, it’s “It’s the End of the World as We Know It”.

Happy Walrus Day! Our 2,640-pound male walrus, Balzak (pronounced BELL-zik), is enjoying fresh sustainable seafood and ice treats for enrichment.

Walruses like Balzak are equipped with incredibly powerful suction abilities, allowing them to create vacuum-like seals to feed on the ocean floor.

This year's Thanksgiving director of choice iiiis: Kurosawa. Congratulations, Kurosawa!

It was going to be Bergman, but I am not in the right place emotionally for Autumn Sonata, so.
