Very tired. Have done some cool things and some very dull things. I feel like I should say something more interesting, but I’m currently in a dull phase of life. Have cats, want a dog too. Did I mention tired?

Charlestown, Virginia Dec 2, 1859

I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood. I had, as I now think vainly, flattered myself that without very much bloodshed it might be done.
Abolitionist John Brown was executed by the state of Virginia on December 2, 1859.

covid should have lead to revolution in clean, fresh air standards, not necessarily because it’s a singular threat, but because it led to us understanding for the first time the true nature of aerosol spread of infective pathogens. this would be true even if covid stopped existing

The best way to navigate this is to BUILD AN ACCESSIBLE WORLD. This kills me, and in many/most situations isn't that hard, it shifts the burden of effort where it belongs (on institutions, away from people), and THERE IS NOT CHEATING.
The world just works for more people.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

this book banning shit is *infuriating* to me, not only as a writer and a human being, but as a parent. I do not give a tiny rat’s ass what you allow or don’t allow your own kids to read. but how fucking dare you decide what MY kid gets to have access to. parent your own kids, you loser weirdos!!!
If you don't want to read a book about a magnificent unicorn who accidentally sits in some paint and feels silly (and then discovers he's still lovable in his mistake), then that's fine. But to ban this book (for 10 years!) to make sure no one else can read it because of the word "heinie"? SMH. 8/

It’s not about facts. This is the Republican PR spin. They want to change the subject to “work” instead of “hunger”.
SNAP isn't about "people who don't work." It's about people who don't get paid enough to live.

Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:

* Two-thirds are children, seniors, or disabled

* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employed—but in jobs that pay poverty wages

of course if you personally have the money to really scale it up, you absolutely should.

mark warner is worth $200 million. nancy pelosi, $100M. just off the top of my head. and it would only take a handful of these rich democrats to give a mere slice of their wealth to maybe save their country

I very much like the idea that the human spine is just 33 little skulls in a trench coat.
Good Sunday morning to all who believe this:

“If you attentively regard almost any quadruped’s spine, you will be struck with the resemblance of its vertebrae to a strung necklace of dwarfed skulls, all bearing rudimental resemblance to the skull proper.” (Moby-Dick p. 382)

Stop overrelying on "AI" for important shit. Like, honestly, stop using it for important shit at all, but definitely stop uncritically trusting it at the level of the GODDAM FEDERAL JUDICIARY.
Federal Judges— or staff, but same-same— used "AI" to summarize & draft rulings, issued them w/o checking the work, leading to basic factual errors, & thus undermining the facticity & validity of the rulings entire.

Gee. Who Could Have Foreseen. *stares directly into the camera like in the office*
Two federal judges say use of AI led to errors in US court rulings
Two federal judges admitted in response to an inquiry by U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley that members of their staff used artificial intelligence to help prepare recent court orders that Grassley called "error-ridden."
