Dumas' FATHER was born to a French count and an enslaved African women in Haiti. The Père was then brought to France, was educated, served in the military, etc.

"The Black Count" is a fantastic book about him.

His son is the author Alexander Dumas, and he based Count of Monte Cristo on his Dad.🇭🇹

I keep yelling about this every time I see it and I see it A LOT. I yell b/c inaccurate language in headlines irritates me but more especially because:
THE BAD GUYS (gender-neutral) ARE PURPOSELY DECEPTIVE IN USING THE TERM "IMMIGRATION"! THEY'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR YEARS! STOP FUCKING ENABLING IT!
they are not "immigration enforcement efforts" @georgiarecorder.com because they do not target people who have broken immigration laws. They target by race and the turmoil is about violent racism and broader intimidation. Please, update your style guide!
At a time of national turmoil over federal immigration enforcement efforts, representatives of Georgia’s Latino community showed up at the state Capitol Thursday to demonstrate their growing political clout in the battleground state.

RFK is using his position to push things that have never shown any benefit in autism & have shown serious harms, including numerous dead kids thru the years. Why push for things known to harm instead of looking for things that could actually provide benefit? Because the harmful things are profitable

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Public funding for journalism. Public funding for elections. Public funding for healthcare. Public funding for science research. Public funding for schools, parks, museums, libraries, universities.

We need to start using our tax dollars to make our lives better.
I don't see any way out of this without a state-funded media system like other civilized countries have.

Maybe the million and oneth study will be the one that convinces people
"By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed."

A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends.

Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.
