How dare the Coward in the White House undermine the bravery and sacrifice of our British troops.

Reform and Nigel Farage should be ashamed to associate themselves with him.

I’m so proud of Minnesota. I understand why some people belittle protests as not enough, but I really think this shit matters.

I saw a clip on Fox News and they had to admit thousands of people showed up. It’s not going to stop Trump, but it’s a signal to your neighbors that they’re not alone.
From a friend in Minneapolis, just now:

I first created this concept map in 2016. After reading your article I created a #Project2029 version. I'm not sure it has every issue you included. It might have others, too. Each cluster needs links to someone aggregating info & connecting people focused on that issue. I hope it helps.

Thesis: ICE is un-American and the Minneapolis protestors are real Americans.

Antithesis: Ackshually ICE is operating in a long American tradition of racist terror.

Synthesis: Minneapolis is now the epicenter of a clash between two distinct but historically grounded American political traditions.

It would happen no matter what. The US President is basically a Roomba. When he runs into opposition he turns and starts devouring in another direction. Sooner or later he always circles back, though.

In the case of Rhodesia, the downfall was caused by a strongman who wanted to make his country great again, deported unwanted immigrants i.e. folks he deemed as immigrants, while ignoring the economic advice of experts in the field.

I need to write a long-form piece about how dang *Minnesotan* the resistance to ICE is here. You have a metro population that quietly got itself organized in a completely decentralized way, and everyone just got down to work. And it's clearly sending the feds into a tailspin.

a very common problem for autocrats, who assume everyone is secretly like them. I remember Putin being unable to grasp that Bush was not responsible for firing journalists
The Trump disbelief that the Norwegian govt doesn't control the Nobel process is deeply indicative of his thinking. He can't conceive that an institution could (or should) be genuinely independent of coercion or political power. That's the change he represents.
Trump: "I should have gotten the Nobel prize for each war...I saved millions and millions of people...and don't let anyone tell you that Norway doesn't control the shots. It's in Norway. Norway controls the shots. It's a joke. They've lost such prestige.“

I’ve never understood why this isn’t a thing. A financial and ethical audit at the end of the term, with penalties enforced right away—something like clearing in high school—makes far more sense than the present combination of scrutiny before office, immunity while in it, and impunity after.
Politicians having to undergo a thorough audit every few years is also an appealing idea if we’re thinking in Athenian terms.

This is complete nonsense. NATO doesn’t have the power to negotiate over the territory of sovereign member states, let alone mineral rights. This is #Trump simply announcing his terms as a ‘deal’ to save face when in reality it’s a climb-down. #Trumpland #ImpeachTrump www.cnbc.com/2026/01/21/t...
Trump says he reached Greenland deal 'framework' with NATO, backs off Europe tariffs
Trump suggested to CNBC that the Greenland framework involves mineral rights for the U.S., as well as the administration's proposed "Golden Dome" system.
