£99987 and counting: graduates trapped by student loans.

Govt froze repayment threshold. By 2030, be at minimum wage.

At the margin grads pay 20% inc tax + 8%NIC +9% repayment. Insane.

Loan increases, if not repaid.

Grads can't buy home, start family/business.

Abolish Uni fees. Write-off debt.

so a month ago I was reading @markpackuk.bsky.social’s speech on Twitter in the lords and there were obviously fake stats the government used to justify Twitter’s UK reach and its continued importance to British audiences

Rob has now found the source of the data was… Twitter
UPDATE: I've had a response from the Cabinet Office!
"the statistics cited ‘19.2 million British citizens registered with X and 10.8 million families using the platform’ were provided by OmniGov, the government's media buying agency, who received this data directly from X itself."

It has been revealed that our chief reporter, @john-mcevoy.bsky.social, was among journalists investigated by a PR firm paid by Labour Together.

Labour Together was then managed by Josh Simons. Simons is now Cabinet Office minister.

This is preying on my mind a bit. Jeffrey Epstein was not primarily a British scandal! So far we've removed a Prince from the Royal family, fired our US ambassador who was one of the most important political figures of the last few decades and banned the CEO of Barclays from the financial industry..
One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office.

Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.

We've reached the "Maurice Glasman showed better judgement than the PM" stage of this crisis. Not sure there's any way back from that...
EXC:

I can reveal the contents of a memo by Labour peer Lord Maurice Glasman in January 2025 warning Number 10 it was making a mistake to hire Mandelson - sent to Starmer’s chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney.

Mandelson is caught bang to rights, resigns from the Lords, investigated by police, Starmer rightly scrutinised, etc.

In America, Epstein cronies go Scot-free and felon Trump still breaks laws daily.

So when BadEnoch and the Tory rags now pile onto Labour it's sheer hypocrisy

Doesn't seem like the best day for Starmer to reheat "you lefties [on the backbenches/in the Labour membership/in the Labour electorate] just don't get it" Blue Labour type arguments?

And being done only to court favourable coverage from newspapers that will never provide it. Moral bankruptcy, political stupidity, economic suicide. Very, very this government.
Labour's changes to immigration rules, including potentially applying them retroactively, would be some of the most draconian anti-immigration policies in decades. They're the hostile environment on speed.
This is pure cruelty as policy, with absolutely no merit to them

Just putting a few pieces of "new" info together, but if Mandelson was:

1) Persuading Gordon Brown to resign in 2010

2) Masterminding Sir Keir's cabinet reshuffles in 2025

3) Someone Starmer didn't like, yet was elevated to that position

Wtf was actually going on here & why was it unreported?
