The new standards “send the message that the US no longer believes in the foundational element of the human rights system it helped build.”

How are those "shared values" going @albomp.bsky.social ? #auspol
Countries that have abortion access, DEI policies or protection for LGBTQ+ people will be considered “human rights violators“ by the Trump regime

Paying Nauru billions to break international law for us
Last night @davidpocock.bsky.social and I read onto the Hansard an interview by the President of Nauru that the Albanese Government has been desperately trying to keep secret.

It shows Nauru plans to send refugees to places they fled. No wonder the secrecy.

So, it's been almost two weeks since literal Nazi's marched outside NSW parl with their literal Nazi oaths and messaging calling for the end to the 'Jewish lobby'.

Instead of condemning this blatant antisemitism, the special envoy is hiring heavies to police university campuses.

So, the special envoy will 'monitor' universities 'governance responses to encampments and other campus activities that may incite discrimination.'

'Campus activities' is doing some industrial-level load bearing there. I wonder what may 'incite discrimination'?

This needs to end. Now. #Auspol

What is happening over at eSafety commish HQ? They can be very credibly accused of making this stuff up on the fly based on nothing more than vibes. Literally days away from implementation, Twitch is now in the naughty pile of platforms u/16 yo can't access

Less than three weeks out from when the ban is due to come into force, the eSafety Commissioner revealed the platform would join the list of age-restricted social media sites.

All (climate) COPs are bastards.

I've been threatening to write this for years. Here it finally is.

All (climate) COPs Are B*stards
On the need to "Defund the COPs" The ACAB slogan has always jarred with me somewhat. I understand (and respect) it as a systemic critique, intended to reveal that it's impossible for any individual,...

Labor didn’t want to be grilled by the world over the North West Shelf gas extension, or their 31 coal and gas approvals, or their pathetic climate target.

Being difficult is the only path to change. We don’t get change by being obedient. accepting the status quo and accepting “This is the way we have always done things” as a good reason to keep doing things that way. We get change by asking “why?”, asking “who benefits?” asking “how can we do better?”
This is about people, about systems, what it takes to make progress, and why being difficult is so important. From fire alarms to hospital beds. From music apps to cars. From climate change to education. Our systems are not serving us well, and it's time to push back.

While we are sending billions to the US for nuclear shipyards, our science and industrial base at home is falling apart for lack of funds and direction.
