This is as good as any contrast between Trump and Biden: state capacity to help people from predatory capital is done. Instead the only growth in state capacity is is in building its coercive powers.
Kate is a reporter for the American Banker. Trump’s DOJ & CFPB turn a predatory lending discrimination lawsuit into an anti-immigrant crusade. Instead of providing restitution for victims of discrimination they use $ to fund more police resources aimed at “illegals.” (Full article paywalled.)

Job growth in the supposedly terrible Biden economy of 2023-24 averaged 192k per month. With 2021-22 it's even higher.

In the supposedly great pre-COVID Trump economy of 2/17-2/20, it averaged 181k.

Now one month of 130k is praised as strong growth, because standards are lower for one special boy.

🚨 SCOOP: The IRS improperly disclosed confidential immigrant tax information to DHS, per sources.

It opens up HUGE liability for the US government.

Trump is suing the IRS over substantially the same disclosures -- for $10 billion.

The tax agency only recently discovered it improperly disclosed tax information on thousands of the wrong people to immigration enforcement.

I've been updating this piece about the Martinez shooting in Chicago, which previewed the Minnesota killings. The organizational culture is completely broken in ICE/CBP. The shooter was told everyone at the senior levels of the Trump admin supported him.

The year is 2045. Nurse is the only job left. It has been hastily retconned to a male coded job and every nurse now wears tactical combat gear and has a gun.
Yikes here are the numbers for the past 12 months. Everything is pretty much dead except healthcare/social assistance. Note that healthcare growth is largely not about the business cycle -- it's about the aging of the population and more elderly people needing care.

The Pentagon and the FAA have clear structures in place to ensure that they are, in fact, in clear communications with each other. These structures have existed for decades.
The US military must obey FAA regulations at all times by the law.
I used to work as a CTR for the USAF office that did this.
MS NOW: "A congressional official with knowledge of the matter is telling MS NOW the cause of the shutdown of El Paso airspace is a lack of communication between the Pentagon and FAA. The official told us the FAA and DOD are 'not in clear communications with each other.'"

The economy produced roughly the same number of jobs in Joe Biden’s last full month in office as it produced in Donald Trump’s first full year in office.
Kind of wild that this jobs report is being framed so positively when it also says this “the annual benchmark revisions sharply lowered estimates for job growth in earlier months. The new estimates show that the U.S. economy added just 181,000 jobs in 2025, down from the earlier estimate of 584,000”

Key point here is "manly jobs," construction and certain types of manufacturing, are also down. MAGA story has been: Immigrants taking jobs of US young men, who as a result are suffering social crisis in hollowed out towns. Deport immigrants and young men will flourish.

But it's all collapsing.
MAGA dimwit Peter Navarro accidentally admitted Trump-MAGA's claim about immigrants taking jobs is a scam. And as @pkrugman.bsky.social notes, not only is job growth down; *manufacturing* jobs are also down. The whole MAGA story is in collapse.

It’s an odd phenomenon where the long established red line—criminal abuse and rape of young people—has broken down, in part because of decades of elite corruption and in part because it implicates their demagogic leader. But popular revulsion won’t go away, so they’re trying to jury-rig a new line.
“.. one person close to the White House predicted that it might be the straw that sends Lutnick ‘for the exits,’ arguing that being on the island is ‘sort of the red line.’”
