When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

If we put half as much resources into metadata and cataloging as we do into dumb AI stuff, we’d way better off in terms of the info/data ecosystem
Panel at #Crossref2025 wonders if metadata has an image problem. Bianca Kramer says the word metadata not used in the Barcelona Declaration. Mariángela Napoli thinks perception of metadata is something too technical. Kazuhiro Hayashi describes metadata as "the unsung hero". Time for a rebrand ;)

As a person who will do math in her head to avoid the time lag of having to dig out my phone and open the calculator app and punch numbers in, I have come to realize I’m not the market for genAI simply because I would rather use my brain than open an app if given the choice.
