The best thing we can do when we see articles about Rahm Emanuel is to not click on them. Show no interest at all. The Atlantic actually paid to promote this article on IG.

I get the Pilsen Community Books e-newsletter and they announced they’re moving, luckily to another part of Pilsen.

But the landlord in their current location on 18th and Carpenter raised their rent by 50%! Not sustainable for small businesses. Happy they are staying alive and expanding elsewhere.

I’m looking for an artist who can draw people and animals!! Specifically mastiffs. I’m looking for less realistic, more stylized, and a moody/dark atmosphere. If commissions are currently closed, that’s okay! Due date is June 2026 (ish), but I wanted to ask early in case there are some waitlists :))

Pro tip: One of my most proactive fellowship alums keeps in touch.

A few weeks ago, she asked if I would nominate her for an award. She included the deadline and a few accomplishments so I didn’t have to go hunting.

Took me 10 minutes.

She just got the email she won.

Don’t be afraid to ask!!

NEW — Chicago’s favorite historian Shermann “Dilla” Thomas stopped by The TRiiBE Studio with some new gold: his 2025 Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award.

“I cried later, yeah, but I’m like, ‘don’t cry on the stage,’” Dilla said. “I was literally at a loss for words.”

Happy Friday, Vermont! Tax the rich. Fund the common good.
When Massachusetts passed a "millionaires tax" in 2023, conservatives claimed the rich would flee.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

Weird request: anybody in Minneapolis want to take a field trip and look at a stairway for me? 630 Cedar Ave. S. had a big fire, and has scissor stairs. The state report about the fire implies that the stairways were open to one another (no wall separating them) – I'd like to confirm that was true.

One of the darkest parts of this timeline is knowing it is Bovino's obsession with visibility that activated most people. Without the propaganda ops, ICE/ERO could have kept going under the surface as they are. Terrain is different now. How many CBP will remain + will they continue w/ same tactics?

MORE ON PACs — It’s budget season in Chicago and the text messages are flowing.

It’s important to understand who is behind the political action committees reaching out to you.

It's been rumored for a bit they would leave mid-November. It's not the weather, just the natural lifespan of a ~225 person operation.

Before Border Patrol arrived, ICE was still here. They were smashing cars to pull people out of them, taking people from court and check-in appointments, etc.
Bovino left LA to come to Chicago and it's not like LA saw immigration operations stop - just less showboating from his crew. So even if these circulating rumors over the last week turn out real, I'm pessimistic about how much change to expect on the ground.
