Don't Miss 'A Thousand Blows' Twice
Despite Hulu's inability to give 'A Thousand Blows' a weekly release or proper marketing, this series starring 'Adolescence's Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty is worth your time.

ICE & CBP have killed several people over the last year and the only names to enter the popular consciousness are the names of the white Americans they have killed. We need to attend to what structures that, both externally & internally.

And the same outraged cops? Defended the killers amongst them

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

There is more courage in the world than fear, it's just that courage sometimes takes a little longer to get organized & is often invisible. Even if the expression doesn't look like this, you have this courage too.

That's not the MN State flag anymore.
A major reason for the change was specifically blatant racist, anti-Indigenous imagery.
It is a specific choice to use this flag.
Minority extremists use the old flag as a dog whistle.
The Vice President is prominently dog whistling.

It's incredible how effective transphobia is as a litmus test for SO many issues. Every time I find a new pro-surveillance tech stooge, they're transphobic. I think people need to understand how tightly the belief that the internet is turning everyone trans is bound up w mass surveillance efforts
Jonathan Haidt Promoted a Fringe Theory on Trans Youth — Assigned
The author of “The Anxiety Generation” told Margaret Hoover for PBS that young people become trans due to peer contagion effects. There is no evidence for this claim.

Thinking about all the times people are like 'PT you're too serious, you're so online, you got those Twitter fingers lol' as me and others around me tried to actively warn that if you don't stand against this kind of shit, they'll target Black people first.

Well.

Hiding LBGTQIA+ in Trek?

There's multiple LBGTQIA+ main cast characters in Discovery.

As I understand it, Starfleet Academy introduces multiple LBGTQIA+ characters as part of main cast in at least episode 3.

I'm sorry the Trek they're watching lacks, that doesn't mean the franchise overall does.
Star Trek has been turning into action Schlock since generations flopped.

Strange New Worlds is too random. It lost all the progressive edge of the era it's impersonating.

They've actually gone a step back from DS9 by hiding all their LGTBQ+ and keep them hidden away in Lower Decks.

I miss TNG

This thread is worth a few minutes of your time, today.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

two problems with this:

1. in 2024, *every* incumbent party that was up for reelection lost vote share (the first time that's ever happened) which is, I would say, an aberration

2. the back-to-back "I want you in office -> I hate you" cycles suggest something more complex than "people's will"

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

It reminds me heavily of queer theorist Sara Ahmed's concept of queer use. "Queer uses, when things are used for purposes other than the ones for which they were intended, still reference the qualities of a thing; queer uses may linger on those qualities, rendering them all the more lively."
