Dear Bluesky, please develop an easy, predictable way for users to find the official Bluesky address for individual government reps. There is NO predictable address convention, and it's hard/sometimes impossible to find either federal or state senators and representatives. Many thanks!

The “extremely violent” behavior that apparently violates Tic Toc standards is being carried out by a representative of the United States government. I agree, it is “disturbing.” Even worse, it shows the violent apprehension of a news producer.
premthakker.bsky.social
Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”

If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...
There is no budget "deal" to be made
President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

Wut? The Free Market in which the rich do not pay taxes? In which executive pay has skyrocketed while lower-level employee pay has stagnated for decades? In which half of the economy does not have reliable access to medical care? In which climate damage controls are "optional"? In which . . .

If the Democratic Party hopes to become again the governing party of a dynamic, prosperous nation, it must become more comfortable with the free market—in policy, but also in temperament. It must embrace dynamism in the marketplace and within government itself…”

"Bottom line: there is a global story that is really positive here. Markets winning, consumers winning, environment winning. US coverage is so focused on our own internal politics and dysfunction that we not only miss the big picture but also risk getting overtaken by our global competitors.'

This is remarkable. The world added more solar and wind capacity in 2024 than we added demand. 100% of demand growth PLUS 9% to retire dirtier sources. Cheap energy keeps winning. ember-energy.org/latest-insig...

"Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia" should be how Democrats begin every single comment to reporters these days.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

This info about ICE training/rules is really important. Thuggery is not a military norm. It's hard not to think that however illegal it would be for the admin to deploy actual troops, they would at least have training, rules, acccountability, chain of command and an oath to govern their behavior.
audacityofdespair.bsky.social
As basic question from an ex-police reporter: Can some of our journalists detail the training regimen all these new federal agents receive? The lethal incompetence involving use of force and perameters of the 4A suggests they are just handed guns, masks and badges and told to go fuck people up.
johnpavlovitz.bsky.social
ICE is made up of men who have failed the human test and have nothing of value to offer this nation.

Adults with decency and options and possibilities don’t do this shit.
mizleslie.bsky.social
For example, the Dems should say "The government is shut down because Republicans are asking Democrats to provide bipartisan cover for a constitutional crime spree—something they can’t in good conscience do." Always read @brianbeutler.bsky.social .

Important piece. He also notes that when GOP members balk at the cost of healthcare, he reminds them that that the insurance market is an entirely different issue.

While lawmakers debate the calendar, a top GOP insurance regulator is pulling the fire alarm on ACA subsidies. If Congress doesn't act before the Nov. 1 enrollment deadline, 24 million Americans will face sticker shock so severe it will crash the entire marketplace.
Time is short for an ACA premium fix in the shutdown fight, says GOP insurance leader

Not to mention the ludicrous fact that the masked feds rappelled down to the building from a Black Hawk helicopter. They left homes in chaos and removed residents' belongings. Obvs, this is not normal police behavior; it's moving deep into secret police land.

I'm not lukewarm about AI summaries. I'm outright *hostile* to these invasive, Big Brother services that I did not opt for. There is apparently no way to keep them out of my mailbox or search results.
johngramlich.bsky.social
So far at least, Americans are lukewarm about AI summaries in search results. Relatively few who have seen them think they're extremely or very useful (20%) or have a lot of trust in the information they get from them (6%). New data from @pewresearch.org: www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...
Bar chart showing that 20% of Americans who have seen AI summaries in search results believe these summaries are extremely or very useful. Far more (52%) see them as somewhat useful, while 28% see them as not too or not at all useful. The chart is based on an August 2025 Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults. Bar chart showing that 6% of Americans who have seen AI summaries in search results have a lot of trust in the information they get from these summaries. Another 48% have some trust in this information, while 34% have not too much trust and 12% have no trust at all. The chart is based on an August 2025 Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults.

Important coverage/analysis of grotesque federal incidents in Chicago by @tyleraking.com

Oh. Hang on. So the guy feds tried to pile drive into the concrete was preceded by the “ramming” incident? In which feds apparently rammed themselves and a civilian vehicle? And disabled their own car driving through a construction area? Do I have that right?

per reddit this is the 'ten car' incident -- weird!

Russell Vought's sadistic threat to kill projects in blue states will blow back on GOP. One getting defunded is reportedly a huge hydrogen project in the northwest that would also serve Montana. Its GOP governor has hailed it as a big job creator. Oops.
