If you’ve ever been curious about my music but didn’t know where to start, I put together this youtube playlist of 15 songs that people tend to especially dig and/or put in their theatre shows or videogames or movies or whatever.

It’s a drastic reaction but I think it’s almost certainly justified by this and this alone

It’s gonna be interesting when ICE goes from trying to kick people out of America to having to stop people from leaving America. Interesting and tragic.

The Aust Parliament Sports Club (the one that ditched David Pocock) is now formally registered as a lobby group👇🏽

Anthony Albanese is the President of the Aust Parliament Sports Club.

That means the Prime Minister of Australia is currently the president of a lobby group.

Just utterly unbelievable.

Come on, mate. It’s not like Israel masterminded some kind of nefarious graffiti plot from afar. It’s just kidnapping and imprisonment. Why would the ambassador be kicked out for that?
tomquinn.bsky.social
Kidnapped in international waters, extraordinary rendition to a genocidal state, and then imprisoned indefinitely.

You'd think this would trigger the immediate expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador for these inexcusable actions against an Australian citizen.

An Australian woman who has not agreed to sign a waiver acknowledging she sought to 'illegally break Israel’s naval blockade' on Gaza will be “indefinitely detained” in Israel’s Ketziot prison unless she agrees to sign the waiver.

AM I LOSING MY MIND???!!!
Gilbert: In relation to the United States and its approach to this, Donald Trump, there's some talk of him getting the Nobel Peace Prize. Would you support that? Do you think that would be a good move?
Foreign Minister: Well, certainly this peace plan is historically unprecedented. And, you know, this has been the biggest contribution to peace that we have seen in a very long time.
Gilbert: So, you wouldn't be opposed to that idea?
Foreign Minister: Obviously, it's a matter for the committee. But this has been the greatest contribution to peace in the Middle East for a generation or more.
And, you know, I think if we see the hostages, when we see the hostages returned and aid flowing into Gaza, what peace enables, I think will come home to all of us.

The other reason the Defence Force is targeting young people is that there’s a talent shortage - nobody’s signing up. Their hope is that young people won’t know why nobody is signing up.

FYI, cops have the same problem. Governments want to fund cops, nobody wants to be one.

Yeah, that tracks. There's been a steady marketing build up over the past 2-3 years that I've noticed. World's even more unstable, gotta fill those boots. The military has *always* targeted the younger demographic, by the way - only the vector has changed. We saw recruiting ads in comics and...

The military’s target audience are in two demographics: 16-to-24-year olds, and 24-to-35-year-olds.

What’s crazy is they COULD buy their way out of it. All HRW said was ‘just ask the Saudi government to set the activists free’. They didn’t even ask the comedians to boycott it. But, for some reason, that price of ‘try and help’ was too high.

Recently saw @zander.supertonic.au give a talk on the most bonkers sophisticated sound design work for an indie game I could imagine. And, midway through, he still went ‘oh yeah, I realised you could just pitch this sound down and use it again elsewhere and it worked fine’. All techniques are good.
etherdiver.bsky.social
Sound design is my favorite part of making music, and arguably what I am best at, but I would NEVER.

Sound design is for everyone, and I am good with however you do it, whether you program every sound from scratch or just pick out presets that you like.
scavengersongs.ca
Sound design isn't sacred. Don't gatekeep, don't be elitist.

Just a reminder that when people talk about computers and algorithms running everything and how much money the people in charge know about us - we still regularly get ads for fast food that is roughly 10,000 miles away. (That’s not an exaggeration.)

Keep seeing ads for the Arby's steak nuggets (which is weird, because Arby's doesn't exist in Australia) and they look like turds in a cup

Very telling that Human Rights Watch went - ‘we don’t need you to boycott it and we won’t take your money, all you need to do is honestly describe the Saudi government’s stance on free speech’ and none of them did it. Ansari just wants to pay a rich people fine and then do what he wants.
mjoneillchw.bsky.social
Also, I dunno, I just think it’s making a process needlessly convoluted. Boost welfare or workers rights and you’ve got the same deal with significantly fewer steps.
mjoneillchw.bsky.social
He’s basically saying we should tax corporations who replace workers with AI and then pay that money to the workers. Which, by my reckoning, is not a bad idea but seems to elide several things about American governance that may make all that irrelevant by end of the year.

Trump is gonna send in the National Guard to take people’s masks off, hey

USA: Mask rules are returning to Bay Area health care settings from Nov 1 as COVID, flu, and RSV cases rise.

Counties including Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sonoma, Napa, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz will require masks for workers, and in some cases patients and visitors, through spring.
Mask mandates return in parts of the Bay Area as virus season nears

Y’know, it’s *almost* like the government doesn’t want the Anti-Corruption Commission to work at all.

Can’t imagine why that would be.

I would respect this whole conversation a lot more if "We have to use AI" finished truthfully with "because powerful people are forcing us" instead of leaving it like it could be pixies
tedmccormick.bsky.social
A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.
