For those that haven't checked it out yet, I have had a KoFi for a while, but actively started to use it. Currently I have two shorts up on there for people to read, and this weekend, I will be sharing the first Chapter of Humanity's Grave as a teaser for it. Go check it out

I long to witness your magnum opus, I long for it to share self-space with my magnum opus, which i have to to realise

Any agent worth their salt and aware of brand risk, would be like, this brand is getting super toxic, every interview, you will be asked about your stance on trans people, i think we can find something better
mjqwrites.bsky.social
Exactly this + this is stuff appearing in national newspapers here in the UK as well. Don't even really need to be on social media to see how deranged JKR is at this point.- im kinda not convinced that arguement holds much water anymore
mjqwrites.bsky.social
And that is the solace I have with this, our government wants some overbearing bloated digital ID system, and that is basically setting it up to fail right out of the gate
mjqwrites.bsky.social
Absolute journalistic malpractice really isnt it.- like ive spent time in countries with digital ID in some variation, all of them are a light touch and very focused in their purpose.

One thing I learnt being in the IT industry in-house, is scope creep can kill and infrastructure project
mjqwrites.bsky.social
JKR spends all her time on twitter vilifying trans people, she seems to get a sick enjoyment out of the idea of trans people suffering. She is no working class hero like she wants to pretend she is, she is a middle class bigot with so much wealth, who is at this point beyond reasoning with
mjqwrites.bsky.social
Ultimately if as an actor, your agent isnt making you aware of how toxic this brand is becoming, they are doing a shit job as your agent. Like, Harry Potter is becoming the transphobia brand whether people want to admit it or not.

Like, if it wasnt obvious years ago, it is now.
mjqwrites.bsky.social
This is a really important point; the HP brand is so tied to JKR, it ultimately is associated with her transphobia. + it contributes to her wealth and cultural capital keeping her relevant.

Questions will be asked about people's stance if they get involved.- I think its important to ask
sloanelysbeth.bsky.social
her being all surly and pissed off in that interview is her own fault

if you accept work in harry potter of course interviewers are constantly gonna ask you about your views on trans ppl

that’s not our fault. jk rowling has made persecuting us her entire personality. so ofc you’re gonna be asked
sloanelysbeth.bsky.social
i don’t care about keira knightley bcos i only ever saw her in the pirates movies.

it’s like asking me to care about olivia wilde.

I love the fact they go, look at Estonia (and when you look at the Estonian model for Digital ID, it is designed and functions in ways that are unintrusive and also doesn't include vast private sector involvement) - it is not all encompassing like the proposals the British Gov are considering.

My apologies to everyone that recieved spam messages from this account, it was compromised last week and was used by the hacker in an attempt for scamming others. - I just wanted to confirm to everyone that I've got it back now, and secured it.

Brexit opened the can of parasites that have now taken over the party, ever increasing right wingers who are obsessed with one up manship in how horrible they can be. I don't think the tory party can be saved from itself now. The obsession with the heir to thatcher and solving the brexit rifts
mjqwrites.bsky.social
The tories have slowly eaten themselves alive, like I'm not David Camerons biggest fan, but there was a time when you could look at them as a party and be like, I don't agree with you but I have a modicum of respect (I was a tory voter when Cameron was leader, and became more left wing over time)

Exactly this, inhalers are a great innovation helping with chronic illnesses and that is the least of our worry when it comes to ecological damage.- In some ways articles like this are peddling eco-fascism and eugenics (where the clear end point of this thinking is exterminationist).

I had to sit there for 5 to 10 minutes before realising it was about Irish Elections. And then I was like, yeah, leave Higgins in office

People often think the arts isn't an economic driver, but it is a huge one. People want to support the arts in various ways, and our society is culturally richer for it.
mjqwrites.bsky.social
This is such a cool scheme; like as a writer that sort of money, I would be able to like go and do some of the research I want without batting an eyelid. It would make me be able to work with editors and sort out the funding for it. To also see that it helped the economy.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Did I start rewriting parts of the ending in Humanity's Grave to be more queer in the whole esoteric madness of the whole scenario. Staring down an eldritch god, as one experiences something akin to the third impact.- I've spent a bit of time doing rewrites as I edit

This is an interesting point; I think the shift to relying on social media for marketing has meant a lot of marketing decisions revolve around that and capitalising on the authors presence and personality.- which puts newer authors without established audiences at a distinct disadvantage
gwillow.me
In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

Obscenity laws and policing the access to literature is one of the only times the slippery slope applies. Because it is the intention of such laws and policies to be a slippery slope, framing it as protecting the children is always the thing to get people on board. - because its an emotional plea
mystgalaxybooks.bsky.social
It’s Banned Books Week. Let’s check in?

First they banned books in schools to “protect the children.”

Then they banned books in govt libraries to “stop the spread of DEI.”

Then they made laws to keep LGBTQ+ and 🌶️ books out of bookstores because “it’s immoral.”

The as you said there is no way for any of these companies to make money.- they are operating at a massive loss relying on "AI is inevitable" apparently some VC firms are getting twitchy, they want their money or to see that an exit is on the horizon. Its going to be messy
mjqwrites.bsky.social
It is interesting to see how big the bet is, I was chatting to some colleagues in the IT space, and like the amount Oracle has locked down on contracts with AI companies, is like a crippling amount if those companies go under. Like systemic risk levels,

I’m going to go tech bro here for a second on the off chance this somehow reaches a bluesky dev. Bear with me.

it can be really hard to not take user feedback personally, but it’s vital to not do that for the sake of both your community & your own mental health.

Here’s how you adapt
